662977 2008-04-27 03:32:00 Hi Guys

Just wondering if this (www.giga-byte.com) Gigabyte motherboard would be able to support an Intel Pentium E2### series processor? Even though it is not listed as compatible in the CPU support list, which hasn't been updated to include any of the newer processors.

:thanks

662978 2008-04-27 04:18:00 according to the intel site yes E2### is socket 775 the same as this mobo gary67 (56)
662979 2008-04-27 04:30:00 It may need a BIOS update. qazwsxokmijn (102)
662980 2008-04-27 04:43:00 Core2Duo's do not work with the 955 Chipset.

So no. Yours is 955X.

662981 2008-04-27 05:30:00 gary67 knew both were 775 and therefore "physically" compatible that wasn't the problem.

qazwsxokmijn thought that might be the case.

trinsic the E2### series isn't a core 2 duo.

It still uses the Core 2 micro-architecture. The name is a put-off.

I'd be wary about it.

662984 2008-04-27 08:11:00 What about one of these (www.giga-byte.com) boards then? Would that be better in terms of CPU support?

:thanks

Gigabyte are usually quite good at keeping their pages up to date. If it doesn't say it does then it usually wont support/work.

Chipset 965X or P31 or P35 or G31 or G33 are your options in the cheap sector.

662986 2008-04-27 11:05:00 So have you bought one of these motherboards already? What are you planning on doing?

I tend to look for hardware at ascent, and then look on pricespy for better prices, as ascent have a really good, refineable, search engine, and an easy to navigate site. That's if you're buying new hardware.
