376162 2005-07-27 14:05:00 Anyone else been advised of this?, I just got a email from Orcon advising that my business plan has been discontinued and I am to sign up for a more expensive option.

Yeah right, I have no intention of paying $100+gst for 256k,nor $150+gst for 1mb connection.

I am going to write to them and ask for a plan capped at 2GB as per what Iconz have on offer, And if not then Im changing, $49.99 sounds far better to me.

376163 2005-07-27 21:53:00 Correct. Telecom have stopped ISP's from offering retails JetStream.

They either have to offer wholesale, or UBS. If they offer UBS for residential, they can't offer wholesale for residential.

However if they offer UBS for business, they _can_ offer wholesale for business as UBS only allows 128k up, whereas wholesale does not.

Confused?

It sucks.

We're in the processing of migrating all our customers as well.

376164 2005-07-27 23:01:00 Yep, got a similar email from Paradise/Telstra. The new rates suck big time and blow even worse.

I suspect the IPS's are still getting sod all out of it though.

376165 2005-07-27 23:28:00 It's a nightmare, I wasn't going to report to PF1 on this until my problem is resolved, but for the last 2 months now this has been the situation:

Telecom->|TP|<-Telstra Clear

Guess who's caught between in between:)

I signed up with Telstra Clear for phones and 2Mbps/10GB ADSL at the end of May/beginning of June, under which plan I would remain with Paradise as my ISP.

After receiving confirmation letter from Telstra, a week or two later they phoned me to say Telecom had blocked my transfer because I was too near to Saturn cable.

I found out from Telstra that Saturn had a signed agreement with Telescam not to poach customers who were within 100metres of Saturn cable.
My part of the road does not have cable, the nearest junction box is 500 metres away.

I sent an email of complaint via the Telecom website, pointing this out, and accusing them of being anti-competitive.
A clown from Xtra Broadband Customer Care replied that they had no such policy, and that it would be indeed anti-competitive as I had said.

I reconfirmed the distance agreement with Telstra, and fired off emails in all directions at Telecom (you can never actually speak to anyone who knows what is what).

This is only the briefest report of what has been going on.

I've had nothing but nonsensical replies from Telecom, I have accused them of being arrogant, obstructional, and obsfucational.

Even after all the to-ing and fro-ing of letters and emails, I've just had another letter from someone else in Xtra Customer Care suggesting either I connect to Saturn cable which is nearby ( a 500 metre extension lead I suppose :) ), or remain with Telecom phones and have broadband via Telecoms network with Telstra/Paradise as my ISP. The latter is the very arrangement which I already have and which Telecom are now going to shut off from the end of August

Can they wonder at me calling them clowns????

So I copied all the correspondence and took it to my MP, Paul Swain, and I am still waiting on Telecom to get real.

End of August!!! There were no details in the email I received as to timing, it simply said that I would be contacted by a Paradise/Telstra rep. With the speed these things move, I can see me being cut adrift from the net and email for a time.

TP, no doubt you have enquired of Saturn regards extending the cable to your end of the street. I seem to remember some discussion on this a while back, or was that Tony F.

376167 2005-07-28 00:07:00 Both Telecom and Telstra have been cagey about when the changes are taking place, but the end of August is what I was told by someone from Telstra, and also hinted at from someone I managed to get to speak to at Telecom.

Unfortunately, there are no plans to extend the cable along my section of the road. It terminates 500 metres away in both directions, there is some sort of a problem, either laying it underground or overhead. It has been like that for about the last 3 years.

I would have thought Telecom would have been only too glad to get rid of such an awkward bugger as myself :)

What really gets up my nose, is that Telecom never contacted me to say they were blocking my signing with Telstra, they have not yet admitted they have done so, or given any reason why they are doing so, despite all the correspondence to and fro.

376168 2005-07-28 00:10:00 as per my email

We are writing to inform you of some important changes that are happening with our business broadband products. From the end of August we will no longer be reselling Telecom’s business Jetstream products.
