375700 2005-07-26 22:30:00 MS Windows Genuine Advantage is supposed to be live as reported here. (www.geekzone.co.nz) But nothing seems to have changed because I've just managed to download an update without WGA.

The report seems to be a bit conflicting:

With the release of WGA 1.0, Microsoft has made a number of changes to the original validation framework. For a starter, validation via WGA will be required for all customers using Windows Update, Microsoft Update for Windows content, and the Download Center.

Security updates remain available to all Windows users with or without WGA validation via the download center or Automatic Updates.

375701 2005-07-27 01:15:00 Ok, this (news.com.com) article at news.com.com elaborates better.

The only exception is for security-related patches. Regardless of whether a system passes the test, security updates will be available to all Windows users via either manual download or automatic update. The Microsoft Update and Windows Update utilities, which provide notifications of new patches, will require validation.

Link (www.theinquirer.net)

Before pressing 'Custom' or 'Express' buttons paste this text to the address bar and press enter:

Attn Mods: Am I allowed to post the line of code???

It turns off the trigger for the key check.

375706 2005-07-30 10:19:00 What happens if Windows isnt yet activated? Does it check the product-key regardless? Chilling_Silence (9)

375708 2005-07-30 10:26:00 You can still get updates etc but not stuff like media player etc
But you don't need a script to block the check, if you dig deep enough MS has actually supplied a tool that will get round the advantage check quite nicely!
