375164 2005-07-25 09:07:00 If you're buying MacOS X, you'll be upgrading a Mac because MacOS comes with all Macs and it _wont_ run on normal x86 PC's like Windows XP will.

Same for WinXP, it'll only run on x86, and not PPC (Mac)

375166 2005-07-25 09:18:00 Mac everytime
No viruses for OSX, No need to waste computer power running anti virus software. Tiger, the new Mac OS, is great to use and easy to learn.
Need Office, you can get MS Office for Mac or the Free Open Office, NeoOffice/J is the best version for Mac.
iBooks are just plain cool and Power books are great.
store.apple.co.nz
Best.

375168 2005-07-25 09:37:00 It all depends, if you like fixing computer's and visiting this site go pc(xp), if you want to be productive and don't really want to come back to this site get a Mac(os x)... plod (107)
375169 2005-07-25 09:44:00 what are you wanting to do with the laptop? Prescott (11)
375170 2005-07-25 10:13:00 Make sure you get the Applecare warranty or you can end up with an expensive repair, if out of warranty.

Get a powerbook if you can, the iBooks have a pretty terrible reputation.

The macs are more expensive but it is more likely you won't have huge downtimes with Viruses and Spyware (and installing software for that matter).
You can setup OS X in your sleep too.

375171 2005-07-25 10:14:00 Go with the Mac.

There is/are less malware / virii written for the Mac; same as the case for alternative browsers (i.e. other than IE). Simply ( so it seems) because they are not so popular so they do not attract so much atention from the cybervandals.)

375172 2005-07-25 10:43:00 Depends on intended usage and budget, and of course if you have any particular leanings of your own.

Macs as stated are free of malicious code but expensive, and the raving about particular software is just some enthusiastic personal preference from Mac fans who think because they found something so simplistic that even they could manage a basic task that everyone should have it...

Lmao.

Did anyone expect anything less?
