375967 2005-07-28 00:32:00 Sadly though, thats right.

Not all kids are little angels, but not all are little devils.

Some enjoy the ego that comes from walking in to a school and socking the 'big-kid' one and getting attention like that, whilst others would rather study hard, get into the 'accelerated learning classes' and win friends like that.

Its all just social communication, largely influenced by earlier up-bringing IMO

Sadly, some (Minority?) kids kill the good use of it during school for all

375968 2005-07-28 00:55:00 If my kids had had their phones confiscated the damn teacher/principle would be looking at getting a thick ear .

You would simply crash and burn Greg .

You talk big, but you don't have any real idea of the problems . Go get yourself elected to a Board of Trustees, see the harm done to innocent kids by cellphone cowards who bully by text and you would change your tune real quick .

Likewise if it was your child who was being attacked, you'd be in the Principal's office demanding blood!

Don't spout off about things you have no experience or competence to comment on . "Some people" have to deal with this on a regular basis and unlike you, "some people" know what they are talking about .

375969 2005-07-28 01:32:00 Nonsense. Sheesh some people make it sound like cell phone use at school are being used to create anarchy, demporalise the local populace, create fear and mayhem, reduce the econmy to tatters and cause worldwide plague. :groan:

Very amusing, only a child would winge about not being able to have their cellfone. I fail to see why you cant wait until after school to read/receive your messages, are you that unloved?

Cry me a river. There is no valid reason to have a cellfone in class.
Schools have their own individual policies, if you dont like it dont go to that school. School aint a bloody democracy.

More drivel from the usual source. You haven't got a clue about my background, so why don't you stop "spouting".

Why do you feel so threatened?

375971 2005-07-28 01:51:00 As Billy points out there are very good reasons for using cell phones AT ANY TIME DURING SCHOOL HOURS .

should read

As Billy points out there are very good reasons for NOT using cell phones AT ANY TIME DURING SCHOOL HOURS.

sorry for that my proof reading needs improving

375972 2005-07-28 02:36:00 Woah, take it easy Greg, I dont think those comments were meant to be personal....

Coin: Two sides here

Sounds to me like Billy T is on a school board and see's more than enough of heads + tails.

Personally I wouldnt have the guts to join something like a school board :D

My apologies Greg, your posts were childish in content so I automatically made the assumption.

375974 2005-07-28 03:45:00 OK, chill . . . you tossed the gauntlet here 1st!

<Surely if we were in America we could do teachers for keeping the property somehow, under their weird American laws >

OK, there are some strange laws here . Like one that states a minor (under 18 y/o or a non-emancipated minor) cannot own anything . He cannot make a legally binding contract or be held to it . He cannot own his own clothing as they are still owned by his parents .

Returning a tangeable piece of property to a minor is an infraction of the law by the person giving (a cell phone?) back to the pupil .

The only way to actually return the whatever it might be must be done to a legally responsible parent or guardian at or beyond the notorized age of majority .

There are no enforceable "parentus locus" laws concerning travel to/from school, at least not on assumption of responsibility for a student under control of a school, etc . Even riding a school-provided transportation (bus, car, van) is not declensionable to the school . Students are advised to purchase school-type insurance covering such instances, which covers the school from litigation and culpability .

Now as to caning . . I think you guys have the right idea!!! Go for it!!! We need it here . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

375975 2005-07-28 03:58:00 Its long gone here, and it was abused by a small number of teachers.

That said, If my boy got canned I would be giving the same thing back to the teacher concerned, law or no law. To think that they can harm children in such a way is repugnent.

Imo you shouldnt do anything to a child that you cant do an adult.

Think its fun to whipsome and cause deep bruising?,try it on an adult first.

Its cowerdly and weak.

375976 2005-07-28 04:08:00 Really you cannot complain Prescott.
Every student who has a phone confiscated has voluntered to have it taken off them. A teachers job is hard - very hard - and some of the hardest teachers who really lay down the law are in later life regarded by their ex students as the best thing that happened to them.
Just keep your phone hidden and remember that thousands (actually billions) of us never had cellphones and life went on quite normally.
