375578 2005-07-27 08:42:00 Qualifications are Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Commerce, Postgraduate Diploma. Majors in Economics, Management, Marketing resp. NZQA credits as well recently completed in workplace skills, organisational culture etc. Spent some time going overseas to see friends and family and helping pple at home at work or with their studies .........
I can't believe you can't get a decent job with that. I know people with just a BCom degree in their late 20s paying well into the 39% tax category. Maybe you should consider moving to Auckland... :p

A good friend of mine is an executive in a major international business firm, and is only about 30. He is crying out for staff!!!.... You gotta know where to look...

375579 2005-07-27 09:43:00 Well, if I was Nomad, that kind of post (... here are jobs - you don't know where to look...) would be pretty frustrating.

I hope you've sent him a Private Message with some details?

375580 2005-07-28 00:44:00 I apprec some info, feel free to message me . Thanks .

I have applied to jobs each day be on the newspaper, job site regular emails and calling agents up and doing a telephone interview rather sending my CV in thou I have sent CVs in the past as well . Applied to jobs of a variety of levels . They just seem to say they were overwhelmed by the success of applicants so I didn't get shortlisted for interview or that the agent said I don't have the skills although there are call centre jobs that she says I am perfect for . . . I said I prefer something away from phones, I asked them if there was any non call centre jobs and they said no .

I should call the agent or employer up next time and get some positive feedback on my application . Last time I left a voice message they didn't call me back when the manager was at a meeting .

It is frustrating thou, feels like still a student . . .

375581 2005-07-28 01:02:00 I dont think its my paper work thou cos I got them checked by advisors on a case/case basis and they said they cannot fault it, if I can't get interview I should call the boss up. I will certainly do that next time :illogical

I spent up to 10hrs in total preparing for a decent position that applied to. So each application was different to each other.

375582 2005-08-24 06:32:00 Hey Nomad,
Have you found a job yet? just out of curiousity how old r u? I'm having some trouble finding one too with my commerce degree although I haven't applied for too many yet, it'd be in the range of 20 job applications so far with roughly 5 interviews but suitable jobs only seem to come up every 2 or 3 weeks, I'm in Wgtn too and it seems to be tough to land a government job if I can't find one by the end of this year then I'd consider moving overseas.I'd possibly consider a call centre job if I got desperate, any tips as to what call centre you got accepted in? Any one in Wellington know of any employers crying out for workers would be much obliged as I don't want to apply for the dole in this supposedly tight labour market unless absolutely desperate.

375583 2005-08-24 20:25:00 I know this is a thread that got bumped, and isn't completely current - but I'd just like to point out that there is such a thing as being *overqualified*. That is - blinding them with too many qualifications and not enough experience. Keep in mind that if you have certain qualifications (degrees etc, depending on the company) they may have to move you up a pay bracket, which puts them off, especially if you don't have the practical skills.

When you're applying for a job, focus on any experience you've had, even if it's 2 months in a call centre. 2 months there is about as valuable as a year at Uni to most companies.

And if anyone in Wellington gets really stuck for a job, I can possibly refer you for a helpdesk position in the CBD, depending on your experience and work history, qualifications not necessary but a good working knowledge of PC O/S's and basic hardware is essential. Email/PM me if you're interested.

375584 2005-08-26 23:07:00 Just a thought, I don't find it at all surprising that Nomad can't find a job.
It appears to me that he is enormously qualified...........................for getting qualifications.
He has spent years learning how to pass exams and gaining experience in the field of being educated, but these are not skills that employers are interested in, they want practical skills.

Nomad, what can you do?
Can you dig a ditch? can you drive a bus or a taxi? can you cook meals for 40 people at a time? Can you fix a computer? Can you sell stuff?
If you can demonstrate that you can actually do something, which is useful to an employer there will be jobs there for you.

375585 2005-08-27 00:49:00 It may be wise for you to consider Australia, especially since so many Kiwis leave NZ to live over there! Have a look at the article in this week's Listener. ;) Scouse (83)
