662987 2008-04-27 20:38:00 So have you bought one of these motherboards already? What are you planning on doing?

I tend to look for hardware at ascent, and then look on pricespy for better prices, as ascent have a really good, refineable, search engine, and an easy to navigate site. That's if you're buying new hardware.

An interesting exercise. I presume you then buy from the cheapest supplier.
That is after you have carefully read their web site to find out if freight is extra and if gst is included. If you are buying several items from several suppliers you will probably be spending more on freight than you are saving. Then you wait for a week or more for parts to arrive. Then if you order at a much cheaper price, you lie awake at night wondering why the price is cheaper.

By far the best way to buy is to decide what you want, then order it from Ascent. You'll have it within 24 hours with a perfect warranty . If you do save a bit doing it "your way" is it worth it putting up with the worry of buying from the "cowboy" companies?

662988 2008-04-27 22:44:00 gary67 knew both were 775 and therefore "physically" compatible that wasn't the problem.

qazwsxokmijn thought that might be the case.

trinsic the E2### series isn't a core 2 duo.

What are you talking about.....It IS a C2D!! The E series has 1 mb cache and is the budget series.

I love how everyone always just assumes the worst here. It's great.

I look for the cheapest price from vendors that I trust, I tend to look between OCZone, Paradigm PCs and Ascent, there are a few others, but I do my research before I spend my cash. But ascent is expensive.

I don't buy from dodgy 2 bit vendors because, well, I'm not an idiot, despite what you presume. And saving 15%+ on all my parts adds up... I've just come from Uni, and can't afford to pay more than I really have to.

Actually, technically they're dual cores, not core 2 duos. But I'm not sure how much difference that makes, or if it's just people being pedantic.

662991 2008-04-27 23:05:00 Ummmm, the dual cores were the prescotts actually, but I'm not being pedantic.......really.

What're you on about :waughh: The E2XXX were never called Core 2 Duo. They sit under the Pentium name to confuzzle everyone. They still use Core 2 micro-architecture (and thus faster then any old Pentium).

Why are you jumping on the bandwagon trinsic?, my question was to stormdragon, NOT you.

My point was its was\is a C2D arthitecture and I was under the impression that all the later models cpu's were C2D. I have no idea why this model is not!

For the record, they are the same as C2D but with trust execute or VT and the 1mb L2 cache...

662996 2008-04-28 07:48:00 Hi Guys thanks for the replies.

No I haven't got the motherboards or planning on purchasing them, a relative of mine has offered me these which he has as surplus. Basically I'm trying to put together a simple dual core office/internet box for my parents.

SolMiester that's what was confusing me they technically are not part of the Core 2 duo series, but have a vast number of similarities in there physical architecture.
