| 375567 | 2005-07-27 00:10:00 | an interesting topic. i am near going abroad to relocate. have been in NZ all my life and graduated with two undergrad and one postgrad degree i just cannot get interviews here, except that the government put me to work in one of their call centres for a 5 month contract. i have been jobseeking for 1.5yrs with 5 interviews so far.... :dogeye: Yes I have seen numerous employment consultants to proof read my documents and I have done further NZQA courses in job seek, organisation culture, ethics, customer service, practical role plays etc etc. the only job offers i been getting are call centres or door to door sales. i can't get junior admin jobs or the analyst jobs. at the mo i am targetting office data entry or processing then may pack up and head abroad... All I really want is a 24k gross (before tax) job so I can live with family here.. and pursue my other interests and minimise expenses of avoiding abroad  your best way is to spend like 4-8 weeks in NZ on holiday .. worst comes to worst you can have a good holiday here. NZ is a treasured holiday destination by many countries. |

Furthermore it'll at least give you some job experience to put on your CV. You wouldn't have to stay too long... 18 - 24 months is about the average life of a first level operator. And... it'll help develop your inter-personnel skills. IT qualifications aren't all that prospective employers look for. |

| 375571 | 2005-07-27 03:46:00 | I've heard that if you do have O/E experience, you'll find it much easier to get a good paying job. People with the right skills immigrating to NZ generally don't have any trouble, except english language. | Murray P (44) | ||
| 375572 | 2005-07-27 04:01:00 | Hey, my degrees were in arts and commerce. I did call centre last time. Its just not my thing. Had a 5 month contract but I just hated it, it was like being caged up. Call after call just isn't my thing. Not that I don't want to do it, I can't do it. I kept looking at my watch, or extending my conversations with customers to help time go pass.... I would extremely happy to accept a lower pay for away from call centre. I don't mind what sort of work I want to get into. Office admin, office processing, customer service consultant (in person), something where I get training and after like 5yrs or such I can work in the same or similar organisation in the same area but in the line of analyst or research. Maybe preferred towards government departments working within a area product service of that department. Don't think I can get straight into analyst roles after this time of applying... |
