| 662866 | 2008-04-26 11:30:00 | Well I've been looking at all the cheap multi-function photo printers with LCD screens and memory card readers that you can get for under $200 from places like DSE or Stationary Warehouse or whereever, and I want to buy one. But with my current printers, to get a full set of new genuine ink, it costs over $100. What inkjet printers at the moment have the cheapest ink available? (either 'genuine' or 3rd party - I don't realy care) Cheers Forrest |

Yes they probably do BUT it is not a good idea to use it. The place I used to work at was the repair agent for Canon printers and they also repaired other makes. The number one cause for most of the printing faults was due to people using 3rd party inks. I know of a few people who have always used 3rd party ink and have never had a problem so it's up to you if want to take the risk. |

Then loo at the cartridges for it - it shows you how many pages you get per cartridge. Then work out the cost. One of my printers does roughly 1200 pages per cartridge. |

Thats very interesting - you hear all the Time that the refills / third party don't do any damage - but actually getting confirmation from someone who actually has to repair them just confirms they DO damage the printers - Cartridge world for example swear the third party/refills are fine. |

| 662873 | 2008-04-27 01:14:00 | Yea that's the other problem with the 3rd party ink. The colours that are printed are not always as good as the genuine inks especially if you are printing photos. |

Each of the $10 cartridges are very small, and need replacing very often. They are also "smart", which means they'll tell you they're empty and refuse to print, even though you can shake the cartridge and there's plenty of ink in them. I got fed up with my Epson printer, and bought some ink and a refill kit. Did about 10+ refills in 12 months (black), and it was fine. Worked out about $2 a fill. |
