376516 2005-07-29 01:12:00 Hi all, I am not actually AMD fan . Knowledge about AMD processer very limited . Would like anyone to enlighten me . I used to compare Intel Pentium with AMD Athlon and Intel Celeron with AMD Duron .

Recently, a friend of my came to me and ask me if Sempron 3000 is good or not . By looking at AMD web site, I noticed that AMD is actually comparing Sempron with Intel Celeron processor . And Duron is "classified" as "Older Products" . Did AMD kill Duron? Why?

Any articles I can read from internet . Thank you .

376517 2005-07-29 01:22:00 Because time moves on,and the Sempron Socket A cpu's are the same design as the Athlon Socket A series, but with revised model numbers.

The socket 754 Semprons are the same as the 64-bit 754's but without the 64-bit arcitecture (which is wasted at the mo anyhow) and with revised model numbers.

376518 2005-07-29 01:25:00 The Sempron 3000 (socket A) has 512kb cache. The socket 754 alas, doesn't. pctek (84)
376519 2005-07-29 01:33:00 ....Cant say I have ever seen a Socket A Sempron 3000....Certainly not on any of my pricelists.

They have have just released a range of Semprons for 754 that go as low as 2600 (1.6ghz),who the hell do they think we are going to sell these to?

376520 2005-07-29 02:20:00 The new Sempron socket 754 CPUs will be 64bit.
Available from about August the 19th I think.

376521 2005-07-29 02:30:00 Thats interesting, I didn't take much notice but looking again they are indeed listed as 64-bit, This price-list has them available as from 26 July....

But still, who would sell one of these?

We still don't have a viable 64-bit Windows OS to bundle with it,and its a budget performaing CPU....I can't imagine at anytime I will be telling someone its a good buy.

Perhaps when XP-64 gets a bit more mature, But I cant see any great effort for companies to provide hardware and drivers, Its an intrim product at best.
