| 664306 | 2008-04-30 08:29:00 | Hi Guys, I'm putting together my very first gaming rig, which is all very exciting stuff . But I'm worried that I'll spend my $$$ on the wrong things . Hopefully this is where you guys come in! PF1 to the rescue? I've already bought my Case and PSU, I got a 620W Enermax Uber Chakra, which was too expensive and absolutely massive . But that's really the name of the game with this PC . . . Anyway, the parts I'm looking at so far: Intel Q6600 Quad core, 2 . 4Ghz, 8MB L2 ( . nzoczone . com/product_info . php?products_id=6200" target="_blank">www . nzoczone . com) -$320 Asus P5K-E Wifi ( . nzoczone . com/product_info . php?cPath=32_33&products_id=4078" target="_blank">www . nzoczone . com) -$229 Gigabyte 9800GTX ( . nzoczone . com/product_info . php?products_id=6955" target="_blank">www . nzoczone . com) -$479 Zalman CPNS9700 NT ( . ascent . co . nz/productspecification . aspx?ItemID=351076" target="_blank">www . ascent . co . nz) -$118 Seagate 500GB HDD ( . nzoczone . com/product_info . php?products_id=6151" target="_blank">www . nzoczone . com) -$115 Corsair Dominator 2x2GB ( . ascent . co . nz/productspecification . aspx?ItemID=363196" target="_blank">www . ascent . co . nz) -$267 Monitor, HP 22" GX 2014 L1 ( . softwareshop . co . nz/Master_Display . cfm?productid=1271627" target="_blank">www . softwareshop . co . nz) I'm going to go vista home premium x64 (I don't really see the need for anything more) And getting wireless MS keyboard and mouse . I'm looking to OC this, so the quad's going to be pushed a fair bit past stock, but it's starting to look expensive, so I'm wondering how much further I want to press the price . I'm buying this in bits, to make it a bit easier on my pocket, so the next things to come are the MoBo, CPU and Cooler . So . . . thoughts? Just one more thing . I'm going to buy a UPS for this thing . Sure beats just relying on insurance . Any recommendations for that? I'm looking at this ( . ascent . co . nz/productspecification . aspx?ItemID=117525" target="_blank">www . ascent . co . nz), mostly because it's cheap though . |

| 664308 | 2008-04-30 08:46:00 | Are you just going to run with stock cooling?? I would say chuck in a Evercool WC-202 Ultra Water Cooler Kit for an extra $200, but to some that maybe a over kill :banana Its the first on this page. (www.overclockers.co.nz) |

| 664309 | 2008-04-30 08:49:00 | What do you guys think of OCZone? They seem to have the cheapest prices fairly consistently. Has anyone had any positive/negative experience of them? Most of the parts on this comp would be bought through them. |

(www.overclockers.co.nz) Nah, I've got a nice big Zalman heatsink on there. I think I'll miss out on the H20 for the moment, might come later down the track. |

| 664312 | 2008-04-30 09:14:00 | 0.0 nice PC, but only 620 watt PSU? You should get a better quad core, there are QX9850's out there. Nice GPU though :drool | SPARTAN 860 (2618) | ||

I'm not really looking at doing any SLi anymore (had delusions of grandeur, but budget vaguely kicked in, that and my GF saw $$$ and then saw red) . Am I going to need any more than that? If so, that can be an along the track thing too . I was initially going to get an E8200, so a Q6600 is a step up from that . I think I'll be happy with what I've got . Having doubts over OCZone though . Googled it and saw quite a few bad comments on it . Don't know if saving money's worth the hassle later down the track . Can anyone suggest a supplier thats cheaper than ascent and pp . co . nz that's still good? I don't need quick supply times, just price and reliability . |
