| 664184 | 2008-04-30 03:17:00 | Currently I am still using Dial-Up (yes I know.....) but am looking to move to Broadband. Does anyone have any recommentdations for best service/value for money etc.? boadband ISPs? I am currently using Clear Net for dial up. Also, what sort of data cap is recommended, would 3 GB be sufficient for an average internet user? Cheers. |

| 664185 | 2008-04-30 03:18:00 | Your right on with the data cap. Web browsing, emailing, the odd youtube video and a bit of music downloading, 3GB is plenty for that. Xnet or Orcon. |

| 664187 | 2008-04-30 05:22:00 | Interesting. I checked mine: Auckland - 3797 US - 2360 I wouldn't call that a problem, haven't noticed any speed decreases downloading stuff either. Nope, I vote for Xnet. |

I have never had to phone the help desk on my behalf but have had to for others that forgot their password. The help desk experience is not all that good. |

| 664189 | 2008-04-30 08:46:00 | I live in Palmy North so shouldn't have too much trouble getting Broadband . Has anyone used Slingshot, if so are they any good? I use World exchange for our toll calls so Xnet sounds good to me, apart from the problems that some folk have mentioned with speed . |

| 664190 | 2008-04-30 09:06:00 | I use slingshot, and they are pretty good, although I only really care about ping times and upload speeds. I get a 25GB cap per month, but its a really slow line at 258kbit download and 128kbit upload, although I usually get better, as seen in my sig. NZ internet leaves much to be desired :( | SPARTAN 860 (2618) | ||
| 664191 | 2008-04-30 09:43:00 | Xnet is the best albeit with a few issues sometimes like for the past 2-3 weeks or so. But overall, in terms of price and service, they are top-notch. |

Nope, I vote for Xnet . There's something just plain wrong with Xnet at the moment - you're getting 2360 to the US while I'm only getting 252 (8:40pm) . Its not the hardware or the line as I'm getting 2700 at 6:30am . There's been a couple of other reports of similar speed to you . Is Xnet throttling some connections but leaving others alone? Or is it as someone has suggested that they are testing fixes . What's the difference between your plan and mine (apart from you getting what you are paying for) . At the moment I can't even watch a Youtube clip . My kids are getting really grumpy and even had my partner complaining about much slower speeds during the day . I did not have any where near these problems with my previous ISP . Xnet have some great plans and a great reputation . I based my decision to go with them on this . And long term customers have expressed confidence that they will sort this out eventually . But to date there are not any timeframes available for a fix . So be warned that going with them now is a gamble . You might be ok . But if you are hoping for usable international download speeds between 5pm and midnight then the evidence shows that you are likely to be disappointed . |
