| 663986 | 2008-04-29 10:38:00 | Hi Folks, I bought a 22" widescreen Acer monitor, hooked it up and the number of dead pixels was terrible. I took it back to shop and they just exchanged it and the "new" one was exactly the same. The tech guy hooked it up to check it and couldn`t believe what he was seeing, everytime I switched on there were more and more dead pixels, so I got monitor number *3 You`ve guessed it this one is just the same, there are dead pixels everywhere, is this a problem with this model its the X223Y , or am I just really unlucky? I always thought Acer was a good brand so had no qualms about buying it. Thanks M |

I remember about a year and a half ago when Acer really wanted to promote their products badly, they offered us sales guys some pretty big bonuses to recommend them, so we did, for a week. Even now Acer is offering some bonuses on their computers and some people that have no better judgment will recommend that crap to you. The problems we had : Our store demo pc : We put a couple models out on display, they wouldn't boot up at all, we thought that was strange, ofcourse you cant do much in the way of formatting them yourself because if something goes wrong, the supplier refuses to take them back so we just boxed them up and put new ones out, yep same issue. We repeated this three times with two different models and there was no improvement (except for one that worked for the week then died). We heard issues in another branch where the PSU out of one started smoking. The keys off the keyboards were also falling off. Anyone else in retail remember those issues? Their entire batch in NZ was crap and they sent out their reps to all the stores to say it had all been fixed up, checked individually and reboxed, some were very reluctantly sold, and again same issues found. From that chain of bad events, I have personally lost all faith in Acer and strongly recommend you do not buy their products. Though I haven't heard of any issues with their monitors, I wouldn't put past them another screw up like that. My advice is to swap it for a different model. Samsung, View Sonic, whatever, not Acer! If you've heard of any 4 letter brand name starting with an A, that would be Asus. /rant |

Samsung I`ve seen, nice to look at but a bit pricey over here £250 for a 17" screen...... or is that what I should be expecting to pay??? I like the size of screen I have with the Acer 22" but definately not its picture quality. |

You can buy a Viewsonic VA2226w 22" wide LCD (ascent.co.nz) for *pounds sign*162.12 (from NZ's Asent.co.nz) Or *pounds sign*186 (www.amazon.co.uk) from Amazon I'm saving up for one of those :D |

ViewSonic 19" monitors arrive from my supplier, at different times, and all of them had bright (more than one) pixels. One even had two green lines down it. Originally ordered two and they were faulty so supplier sent another two and they were faulty so again another two sent but they were faulty as well. All sent back now and changed to a different model. |

Samsung's best work so far (the 2232BW) has become nothing after they changed from their own panels to CheMei panels. When expecting to pay top dollar you should not have to be conned into actually paying for a panel that is worth less and has a worse quality display. |
