2005-08-04 11:08:00 | Greetings, Ive just been out investigating the prices for Vodafone Data plans for my iMate JAM. I wanna be able to ssh home. Any ideas roughly how much I'd be using for Data for a bit of general ssh usage? Do PXT messages count as GRPS usage on my 3MB limit? Coz they reakon it would, and if it does then that REALLY sucks!!! Just curious to hear from somebody with the Data plan Cheers Chill.

2005-08-04 11:26:00 | Pxt do not count as data usage. Im on a 3mB usage and I use it quite quickily as I use msn messenger and icq on my mobile. Its really expensive but it will be really expensive if you don't choose the right plan Im on a 3mb plan and I use like 30MB a month which is $2 every MB after 3 Whats SSh?

2005-08-04 11:52:00 | Its Secure SHell..... Kinda like encrypted telnet if you will :) So they were wrong, Pxt dont count? Thats good, coz I'd go through around 2 megs a month on that alone :( I wouldnt use MSN or ICQ, so yeah.... Any thoughts on roughly how much would be used?

There was a time when I just chose the data plan and ditch the calling plan. But it comes with a price where if u accidentally make a call you would be charge something like $30 a minute.Lol.I accidentally made a 8minute telecom call.Charged me $100+ but they were kind enough to credit half of the call. |

2005-08-04 11:59:00 | My guess would be not much at all. You could always use SSH on one of your PCs and find out how much traffic it uses. One of my lecturers uses his phone extensively for MSN and he gets by with around 15MB a month. SSH would be considerably less than that, depending on how much you used it. | Jeremy (1197) | |

2005-08-04 21:38:00 | Vodafone's 3G network is supposed to go public in the next couple of months, (end of this one from memory) I would assume this comes with new data plans, seeing as you'll be able to do a MB in a few seconds. You may want to wait and see what happens with that before you get locked into a contract. BTW, what are you using as a SSH client? I tried to get putty for pocket PC running on my ipaq, but it locked up every time. -Qyiet
