377968 2005-08-05 11:23:00 Theres something to be said about hooning in controlled situations. (Uncontrolled being streets) and I know it's been said a hundred thousand times, but there needs to be ready access to somewhere where hooning can be achieved on a regular basis, in a controlled environment, with people who can train them do so correctly.

Drift meets in Puke are a good start on that one. Drifting - apart from being a great way to wreck an engine prematurely - is an excellent way to learn how to handle a car in an advanced manner.

I have to admit I've learned what I know about car control in racing simulators and from sheer good luck (ever had a tankslapper on the motorway? I have) but not everyone has been as lucky as I have been, and all those hours on a simulated Mt Panorama has helped my handling skills to a great degree. Not that I now go out on the road and try to beat Murphs time or anything: Murph doesn't do that now does he?

I think motorsport has a lot to offer these wannabes if the resources were there to teach them properly, were subsidised to make them affordable, instead of letting them loose on the streets to try out this cool trick they saw in Fast & Furious. The money is there, its in your fuel taxes and being fed into the consolidated fund to do nothing towards lowering the road toll.

377969 2005-08-05 12:10:00 the catch 22 while a lot of people will think haveing a space where people can hoon around, even if its with driving instructors, no-one wants it next to them. locally we have had every race track shut down and ever attemp at starting one has usually resulted in people complaining. the typical "not i my backyard" syndrom. and they wonder why peole do burnouts in front of their driveway!. tweak'e (69)
377970 2005-08-05 12:15:00 What the hell is wrong with kids now days that they need burnout pads to occupy their time?

Why can't they just watch TV and play on the spacies like we did as kids . . . . man when i was young we entertained ourselves with booze and smoke, and hanging in our morrie thou going "whadareya!!" out the winda with a DB bottle .

Instread of standnig around with their fingers up their asses they should be out experimenting with drugs, booze and sex like the rest of us at their age .

Gees, have we bred some nancey boys or what?

Maybe us oldies should dig up some old DB bottles and go down the the center of the city and shout "whaddaraya!" at the kids in the cars to remind them of what real men do . I bet they don't even chunder like real men either, damn metrosexuals . . . .

377971 2005-08-05 20:44:00 Times change, as do the interest of young teenage guys (Well, aside from an interest in Females that is....) Chilling_Silence (9)
377972 2005-08-06 03:51:00 Simple. Manufacture a car made out of ruggedised plastic and rubber, with the aerodynamics of a fridge. It comes in one colour - dayglow orange. If it ever exceeds 105km onboard computer shuts off the engine and activates all the airbags (of which there are four - driver, passengers front and back), and plays a recording of a young woman saying "you are such a jerk" over and over.

Change the legislation so that this car is the only car young drivers under the age of 23 are allowed to drive (except for work purposes).

Then set up a manufacturing plant in Gore to make it.

Why the hell limit that to "young drivers under the age of 23", Bruce.

I'd make it compulsory for all car drivers. I ride a bicycle. I'm alive because I know you're all trying to kiill me.

And think of the saving of all the foreign currency we spend on cars which can do 220 km/h.

377973 2005-08-06 05:07:00 Considering traffic problems and all that too, well up here anyway, ban cars altogether and bring back the horse and buggy. pctek (84)

377976 2005-08-06 21:28:00 Having read all of the above,I vote for Bruce or Mets army as the solution.
Though the cube idea has some merit.

377977 2005-08-06 22:24:00 Ban the import of second hand cars, paticularly the Japanese so called performance cars. These young people can purchase a turbo charged 2Litre car capable of over 240kph for a couple of grand, which handle like a brick.
