664452 2008-05-01 20:47:00 Overclocking Core 2 Duo's is very easy.

****You should not go over 3gig on the Intel stock cooler, however it will be fine up to 3gig, after that you need a aftermarket cooler.

Can't agree with that. I have O/C to 3.82 and have stock standard cooling.
CPU temp settles at about 48c.
I would be very careful about increasing voltage, that's the dangerous bit. With the ASUS m/b (luckily) your computer will just switch itself off it you try to go too far.
I currentlly have my X6800 running at just over 3.6 (default 2.97) just by increasing fsb and multiplyer. Voltages are set on Auto. The computer is comfortable with this and I am happy.
I am also running the ASUS version of "Cool and Quiet". My fans are running at the slower speed and everything runs smoothly and quietly:clap

lol umm

Are you quoting Tcase? your a Tjunction temperature? If your quoting Tcase your Tjunction is prob around 61C (could easily go 15C higher on a 30C+ summer day).

^^ great example of someone not understanding Core2/Quad temperatures and how some software reads Tcase and others Tjunction, quoting a temperature without quoting which one you are talking about is pointless, as the thermal tolerance limits are different.

Edit, Actually I bet that 48C temp you quoted is not even a load tempoerature, there is no WAY you can run a C2D X6800 safely at 3.6gig+ on a Intel stock cooler unless it is throttling and you don't know it. Download Intel thermal monitor and test, I would be worried (don't forget to click "start" on each core for load)

An interesting tool. BUT it will not work with Quad core.

664455 2008-06-24 00:51:00 Best to go to here (forums.overclockers.co.nz) and read the stickys.

Don't be afraid to ask stupid questions, I'd rather look stupid than intelligent with melted components.

But you said you were running a Dual Core (x6800)?

Have a new comp now. A QX9650 CPU and an ASus Striker ll EXtrene M/B.

I am trying to find a decent temperature monitor that will sit on my desktop and show temps.
