664067 2008-04-29 23:59:00 It'll probably be better if you slipstream it.

The only things it wont have, are IE 7 and WMP 11

664068 2008-04-30 01:13:00 SP3 wont be going on a Customers PC I have here, Not yet anyway - They tried to install it from some place (don't know where they got it, but it was yesterday) and they are running some sort of MS Shop / Accounting program - Now the PC is in an endless reboot right after the Desktop loads.

It seems some people are having all sorts of problems installing SP3 thats currently available on an existing system - you shouldn't have to slipstream it then install to get it in.:groan:

664069 2008-04-30 01:20:00 People are saying that IE7 and WMP11 won't install on a slipstreamed XP SP3?

Well if you haven't noticed already - go to the download page for IE7. Notice how it's called "IE7 for XP SP2" ?

That's my theory anyway. Maybe Microsoft will be releasing an IE7 and WMP11 for SP3 afterwards?

664070 2008-04-30 01:24:00 Probably because theyre running something similar to Microsoft Dynamics RMS

Whoever said you cant slipstream IE 7 and WMP 11, are wrong.

Because, I've slipstreamed both, on the 2 computers here. Both run fine, no prob at all.

The wga version of IE 7 may not work, but the non-wga version does

Just download IE 7's install file, and add it to a SS cd with Nlite

Even tho, WMP 11 needs to be validated as well, it installed fine here as well

And no, I dont think MS will add IE 7 or WMP to SP3, now or later

Its pretty stupid tho, because I would say SP3 includes the updates for IE 7 and WMP, but not the main files

Oh, no I meant didn't it go something like this?:

Already installed XP SP1/2 + install Sp3 on top = can install IE7 and WMP11

Slipstream SP3 + IE7 & WMP11 = Works

Slipstream SP3, install windows then try to install IE7 & WMP11 Afterwards = Doesn't work

Nope thats wrong too, I tried that by just SS SP3 with the cd.

And installed it on the spare hdd in this, prior to SS SP3+IE7+WMP11.

Both installed fine too. No prob at all

Altho this MAY depend on what version of Windows you've got/ installed. ie: Retail/OEM etc (Altho it shouldnt matter)

664073 2008-04-30 02:19:00 Wainuitech - when you fix the problem please tell me what and how you've done it. Sounds the same thing that happened to me, got into the reboot cycle on startup.

664075 2008-04-30 05:00:00 Downloaded SP3 from MS this morning & have installed it on five PC's & one laptop, all with IE7 & WMP11 (except one PC running IE6 & WMP9). All went sweet & are running flawlessly (so far).
Can't be bothered with slipstreaming yet, I'll just wait for MS to do that for me!

sarel Okay got it going again - Bloody hell what a mess :groan:

By the way the MS program they had is MS Money Business (trial)

I ended up running system Restore Via Command prompt, THANKFULLY they listened to me ( for once) and made a restore point before trying to install it.

To run the restore from command prompt - ( If interested)
1. Boot into Safe mode with Command Prompt – Keep Pressing F8 at start-up then with the arrow keys select Safe mode with Command prompt.
2. At the command prompt, type C:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe
Press Enter. - use restore as per normal.

BUT the system is still a little unstable, so I 'm gonna do a repair install as well.

Heres something interesting I also found out - just finished building the 1st of Two identical hardware PC's for a customer, thought Id try the slipstreamed SP3 + IE7 that I tested on my workshop PC, which worked perfectly - Same rebooting happened, It formatted, installed, went through the drivers loading then rebooted , after 4 times I stopped it.

Put a standard XP SP2 in, and it went perfectly. Tried the New Slipstreamed SP3 again on another drive connected to the customer pc --- RASPPPPPPPPP!!, tried it on a old clunker I have laying about - no problems.

I'm starting to think that there is driver / hardware issues, the Buggered install / PC above is only 2 months old.
