I've got an E8200 rated at 2.66Ghz FSB 1333Mhz
a P5N-E SLI mobo and G.Skill PC6400 CAS 5 (4-4-4-12) running at 5-5-5-16
and plenty of cooling (tho I'm using the stock cpu cooler, teh 45nm chips are really cool and the stock cooler is quite good - idles at ~30°)

I'm looking to hit around the 3.7Ghz area but I've never OC before so I have no clue what to do

Can anyone tell me step by step EXACTLY what to do, what settings need to be changed to what, what dont you touch, etc

....

664444 2008-04-30 21:12:00 Overclocking Core 2 Duo's is very easy.

In a nut shell.
1. Increase your DDR2 ram voltage to 2.2 volt.
2. Set your Ram divider to 1:1 effectively underclocks your ram (you will see why)
3. Set your CPU a FSB to 380 for a start (will give you just 3040gig).

Slowly increase your FSB(front side bus) in lots of 10's or 20's and test for stability. As your FSB increases your ram speed increases and that is why we started by underclocking it.

At 400FSB the effective ram speed is 800. Your ram should be no prob to at least 480FSB (960 effective) will give you 3.8gig with your processor.

450FSB x8 (E8200 8x multiplier) = a CPU speed of 3.6 gig and a ram speed of 900 effective for example.

You "may" need to boost your CPU voltage slightly to 1.3 or even 1.4 volts, try and keep it low, only boost it if there is instability.

****You should not go over 3gig on the Intel stock cooler, however it will be fine up to 3gig, after that you need a aftermarket cooler.

These forums are great sites and you will find more info.

664445 2008-04-30 21:33:00 Actually after thinking about the cooler and a quick read as your processor is 45nm, its probably more like 3.5gig+ and you are better off grabbing a after market cooler, 3.7gig may be pushing it a bit on a stock cooler in the middle of summer. Battleneter2 (9361)
664446 2008-04-30 23:21:00 Yea, thanks for that. Will try ang get a cooler soon.
Tho I've got an Antec 900 Case and thats got LOTS of fans esp the 200mm one right above the cpu sucking heat out of the case.
Seeing as its winter now(ish) reckon I could OC now and get the cooler later?

664447 2008-04-30 23:43:00 Sounds like your case cooling is good and I agree, Winter is probably fine assuming your not a nutter heating your rooms.

Tjunction max is 95C on 45nm C2D with a recommended temp of 72.4 for long periods of time (load). Use "Intel thermal monitor" or "Coretemp" to meansure TJ under load.

Most motherboard software measures "Tcase", I am "guessing" tcase should be no higher than 59C ish under load for sustained periods of time, as Tcase usually reads between 11-13C ish lower.

664448 2008-05-01 00:41:00 OK, just a quick question.
How do you (or can you) upload photos to pressf1?
If you cant, what do you recommend?

My bios makes things a little difficult so I've posted some pics in flickr:

664450 2008-05-01 03:20:00 Whats the question?

change that "memory clock mode" to unlinked or disabled whatever the terminology is.

Change the Ratio to 1:1`. it may say 2:2 which is the same thing.

You HAVE to increase the ram voltage to 2.2, so you need to find that.
