664289 2008-04-30 08:25:00 We got a new motherboard earlier this year. PC has been running slower than we would like and it has become fairly obvious we need more RAM.

The processor is a 2.20 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64

Currently only have 512Mg RAM and going to add to total 2Gig

About right ?

Or should just get 1Gig extra (might be my Scots heritage ! :) )

664290 2008-04-30 08:31:00 I would go 2GB as the price is so cheap now anyway. CYaBro (73)

 You can never have too much RAM.

You sure about that?

I have 4 slots, so that means I can have a total of 32 GB of ram!:clap  :waughh:

664294 2008-04-30 22:31:00 your motherboard will limit how much ram you can fit, and how much ram each slot can take. utopian201 (6245)
664295 2008-05-01 07:44:00 1 or 2GB is v good for XP. Doing normal stuff that is ... but 512MB isn't bad to be honest IMO .. for admin work and stuff ... but it has a been a tad slow on our slower system AMD Sempron 2500+ Nomad (952)

And your problem with that would be? (aside from the cost of around $9000)

( and as long as the motherboard supports it)

Its no use for gaming but ideal for video rendering or photo work

Really? I didn't know that any program needed 32 GB to run at optimal speeds. Even the most demanding programs max out at 8 GB. And yes that $9000 cost would really discourage me from buying it :)

664298 2008-05-02 00:04:00 Thanks guys
I got the RAM - there are two slots so 1Gig in each. Total 2Gig -- Cost $218 inc GST.
Misty :)

PS - Now got to think what to do with the original 512Mg Ram left over.
