664078 2008-04-29 21:51:00 Doing a low-level format on a 2Gb memory stick, and I'm wondering if I should re-format it as FAT or FAT32??

Is one preferable other the other??

664079 2008-04-29 22:02:00 Don't think it makes any noticeable difference in performance.

I kind of like formatting my big flash drives in NTFS, but for smaller ones it doesn't work so well.

I use FAT32. Apparently FAT16 gives better performance, I can't tell.

664080 2008-04-29 22:06:00 Altho if you want to make it bootable, (thats if its bootable, not all of them are).

I dont think they'll boot, if its formatted in NTFS

664081 2008-04-29 22:13:00 Yer, it needs to be FAT32 to make it bootable.

I always use Gparted to format flash drives. You can do whatever the hell you want with it. :p

664082 2008-04-29 22:14:00 Sorry if this is a stupid question, but how do you re-format as NTFS?

XP Disk Manager only gives me the option of FAT or FAT32?

As above. :p

Gparted ftw. The XP disk utility is so limited it's unbelievable.
