377380 2005-08-01 12:36:00 I just got notification that the polytech I go to had miscalculated my result. They're taking my Merit pass in a paper down to a regular Pass. I know that another student has had this happen as well. The letter told me that once i return my old result letter they'll send me out a new corrected one.

As it is their screw up surely I should keep the Merit?

Can they do this?

377381 2005-08-01 13:03:00 Yep they can do this (they write the rules of the place).

You should be provided with a detailed explaination of what went wrong though.

Seems very odd that they change their mind after the (I assume official) results are sent out. Heh and making you return the result letter, makes it sound like a cover up. :D

377382 2005-08-01 21:29:00 Keep the merit letter. When I was at polytech one of my courses I got 100% in all my assignmants and the exams. I was downgraed - when asked why, they said because it had to fit the bell curve. Sucks. pctek (84)
377383 2005-08-01 23:06:00 Many moons ago my wife spent a year at a polytech, only to be advised that the course had been assessed and found to be less then the requirments to get whatever diploma she was doing it for.

Not only were they not advised of this half way through the year when it happened but didn't find out untill well after the course finished and none of them recieved any results.

They had to hire a lawyer to even find out what happened, no further action was taken due to lack of funds.

Which isn't surprising as they had each spent many thousands on course fees.
