| 665126 | 2008-05-03 00:52:00 | The world of editing is foreign to me. I have put home movies from my video camera onto dvd rw discs using my panasonic dvd recorder. I now want to edit the home movies and add captions and music and delete some scenes/part of scenes. Can someone please recommend the best and easiest software to do this. Thanks:p | justineaburn (13696) | ||
| 665127 | 2008-05-03 01:11:00 | Welcome to Press F1 justineaburn you may already have a video editing program already on your pc that can do what you want. its windows movie maker (www.microsoft.com) have a look through the site , it tells you how to use the program, as well as giving examples.Click on Get started for instructions ( center of page) | wainuitech (129) | ||

Its only crap if it doesn't do what you want - I know people who have had good results depending on what you want to do, I've used it to edit / make family movies, did every thing I wanted - and its free, others you may have to pay for if the features are not available. |

Other good Windows alternatives - Nero Video, Pinnacle Studio (now part of Avid), Sony Director, Ulead Studio, Adobe Premier Elements ( I think it is called Elements) |

| 665131 | 2008-05-03 05:07:00 | I have been using Pinnacle Studio for some years and find it pretty good value for money . I have also used Windows Moviemaker and found that it is the best value for money available . that is, its free on 90% of todays computers . For simple stuff it can't be beaten . Only Vista can write to a DVD though . For XP you need a third party DVD writing program . But, I don't think these are the answers that he wants . I feel that justineaburn has copied the video to DVD Ram (panasonic) and does not have the tapes . Am I right? I know how to edit DVD+R - simple in Pinnacle . Don't know about DVD RAM disks . If the DVD recorder is also a HDD recorder, like my Panny, you can copy back to the HDD . Then a DVD+RW could be used to copy the video to, then extracted using Pinnacle Studio . Ken |

| 665132 | 2008-05-03 05:32:00 | Just reading the question again and the poster wants to edit the movies that are currently on DVD and add captions, music, delete scenes and at titles etc - All of that will require recapturing the footage from the DVD into any of the suitable applications listed above and performing the necessary edit functions before re exporting and burning to DVD again. | vitalstatistix (9182) | ||
| 665133 | 2008-05-03 05:41:00 | Adding to what vitalstatistix said, one program that should get the movies off is VLC Player - I found This Here (lifehacker.com) the other day - just some of the features that VLC Player can do that I have never seen suggested before. It actually does a good job or ripping your family dvd's to AVI , the link in the middle of the page "How To Rip DVD's" explains how. |

| 665134 | 2008-05-03 06:05:00 | With regard to Movie Maker, when I open, the programme opens for about a half minute then an error box comes up saying " Movie Maker has to close and any data will be lost" Is this related to the previous post about wrong codecs? cheers |
