664761 2008-05-01 21:06:00 Has anyone had any joy with a quad core?
My principal program is FSX which does not recognise quad core With my dual core I have one core constantly running at 100% and second core never seems to go over about 15%. My useage guage on my G15 keyboard fluctuates between 50% and 100% usage.

I have had reports from quad core users that two of the cores show no useage. So I am wondering if there is any point in buying a quad core.

I am running Win XP home and have no intention of going to Vista.

664762 2008-05-01 21:18:00 For programs games etc to recognise dual core quad core, it has to be written into them. The original FSX didn't recognise dual core until the FSX expansion pack came out.

664763 2008-05-01 21:51:00 There are very few applications & games that take advantage of 4 cores. Most common ones would be encoding apps for video/music & rendering apps.

Of course, given time more apps & game will be written to take advantage of as many cores as you can throw at them.

Theres not that many that use dual either.
As you can see JJJJJ on your G15 LCD.

664765 2008-05-02 10:41:00 One game that I know that does use all four cores is Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance. You can have a 4 vs 4 with 1000 units on each side, and you really need quad core for that. SPARTAN 860 (2618)

664767 2008-10-26 14:58:00 I just joined this forum and have been searching through sites to get information on gaming PC's and i noticed you mentioned FSX in your post. Fsx is my interest as well. I purchased a quad core 8gb Intel Q9300;Nvidia GeForce 9800gt.I am interested in the principals of the quad-core and if I understand what's said here ."because of the upgrade to service packs;the quad core can use more resources??
I hope I make sense here?
Thanks

664768 2008-10-26 20:09:00 Do you have the FSX SPs to allow it to use multi core cpus. Go here to check them out
www.fsinsider.com or the alternative is to go and buy the FSX Acceleration Expansion Pack which has more missions on it and 3 more aircraft.
