379937 2005-08-10 03:59:00 I have been looking at broadband for a while now and the last time I was ready to jump in some authority announced that telecom were to open their doors to all and sundry and the market would suddenly be really competitive and the consumer would be the winner. Great i thought rubbing my hands together - i'll wait and see.

tick tock, tick tock

So does anybody have any idea whats happening since I am turing a rather delicate shade of blue from holding me breath ?

379940 2005-08-10 05:00:00 Well labour just announced what they will do to improve telecomunications services (www.nzherald.co.nz) if re-elected. Which is very little. Better however than the last thing I heard from national, which was: *confused look*, um, ... I, ... , ah... we'll lower taxes, and not charge you fart tax.

Yeah.. and you wonder why I don't take national seriously.

I suggest you take a breath now, before you do end up that shade of dead.

Do take the time to read Nationals policies, you may see the light and become un socialist.

379943 2005-08-10 05:22:00 Do take the time to read Nationals policies, you may see the light and become un socialist . I intend to spend a good amount of time reading policy of most of the major parties .

But when the major points of difference that people who we would have running the place put foward are so pointless, I have trouble voting for them .

/starting to rant way off topic now . .

My personal favorite add for national at the moment is the one about education . On the labour side it has a lot of FLAs (like TLAs but longer) . On the national side it has KIDS .

They quite correctly point out that the NCEA is a shables . but NATIONAL introduced it . The comparision says it all though . . Kids . *shakes head* there is no "this is what we would do better" in that . It's just a pointless attack, that makes themselves look stupid .

/getting down from the soapbox

If you can link me to national's communication policy it would be appreciated . My local national candidate couldn't .

379945 2005-08-10 08:26:00 From the article...

"The changes I am announcing today will make the [Telecommunications] Act more effective, where necessary, in driving down prices and improving the quality and range of services,"

I WON'T HOLD MY BREATH.

I'm seriously considering voting United Future as they've said they're going for unbundling, which is the only way forward for telecommunications in general. Unfortunately, they won't get voted in so nothing will change. We'll be left with gutless labour or one of the other ignorant parties in charge of the whole fiasco.

I quite like this article. It sums up Telecom's monopoly quite nicely.

www.nzherald.co.nz

"But the really sad indictment of our politicians is that none of them have any idea of a decent telecommunications policy. And regardless of who wins the election, Telecom will still be in power - free to cream monopoly profits from consumers with little choice."
