379277 2005-08-08 01:37:00 With the cost of MP3 players dropping, I wonder how the audio quality compares.

Ipods can cost as much as $400 - $500, while cheap MP3 players are below $100.

Specifications list the memory capacity, in Gb, or Mb for the cheaper ones, and I suppose
that the more expensive ones have a better digital readout and program control.
But what about the sound quality? Has anyone compared MP3 players using the same or similar quality earphones?
Do the cheapies sound cheap?

If you have an inexpensive MP3 player, are you satsified with the sound quality?

379278 2005-08-08 01:41:00 unless they are ultra crap quality, you should not be able to hear any difference in quality. What you could try to do is play music with a lot of bass and/or high pitch audio to hear how it performs :2cents: bob_doe_nz (92)
379279 2005-08-08 01:43:00 I use an 40gb ipod here. Well depends on which Ipod you buy, on how much it'll cost. I dont really use this for MP3's tho.

I use it more, as a portable hdd. (before I brought a usb 2 flashjet).

The gb or mb is hdd space not memory for Ipods.

379281 2005-08-08 02:17:00 I found the ipod to be loud and clear (very loud, painfull even) though a bit on the gay side of things.

Definitly a womens accesory.

379282 2005-08-08 02:19:00 It seems so far, PF1ers have relatively expensive MP3 players.

Anyone have a Cobalt from the Warehouse, or other cheapie around $100 ?
Even DSE had one for sale around $60.

379283 2005-08-08 03:22:00 I use a 30GB ipod and also have an old MPMan from many years ago when mp3 players were brand new on the scene. The MPman has 64MB of flash and links to a pc via parallel cable and hence it is extremely painful to transfer music to it. It's pretty redundant now, but did the job back then. My brother uses a $150 flash player and finds the quality fine. I think it comes down to how much storage you want and how much you want to pay. Ipod's are nice, but you pay for it. Sb0h (3744)
