I found a little note in the LA Times here in the US that writes about erasing evidence and overwriting files as a personal freedom......

See what you think of this. (www.latimes.com)

It seems that in some of the cases cited in the article possession of Evidence Eliminator was evidence of guilt. I hope the jusry didn't buy this argument.

I have been trying out NetBSD's cryptographic device driver. If I was in the US, the feds can jump me and accuse me of being a child porn freak.

378991 2005-08-07 13:36:00 Cripes the cost of some of that software is astronimical for what it does. Freeware erasers have been around for yonks, most Linux distros, and especially rescue discs, come with tools that are more than capable of having the disired effect.

Gotta agree there, Rob and Vinref. There are plenty of legitimate reason for shredding in private and business situation.

378992 2005-08-07 14:44:00 I shouldda noted that the LA Times is a radical newspaper, catering to the liberals who see no problems with ascribing civil and personal rights to the rubbish . :p

As the "Left Coast's" most liberal propaganda machine, the Times has taken a personal Quixotic delite in destroying the freedoms and institutions that the founding fathers had so neatly written into the constitution . Their glee in destruction of middle-class values has been noted over and over by everyone from Will Rodgers to Nikita Kruschev, both avowed communists, most notebly with praise or criticism as might be required at the moment, degrading individual rights that they say are not included in the law of the land .

In a f'rinstance; the recent New London, Connecticut (and soon the Supreme Court) decision that personal property CAN be seized for the benefit of private enterprize . . . ie, the taking of a person's land/buildings for use by another private concern for the purpose of "enrichening" the general public coffers .

In other words, if Walmart wants your property and family farm to build a mega store, then they now have the right to sue for the land and force you to sell at a pennies-on-the-dollar amount . Of course, this would be a case-by-case court evaluation . . . natch!

It's 'way past time to line up the wagons in a circle to protect the wimmen and chillens from the Indians .
