2005-08-10 08:33:00 | Im too lazy to read all the feedback, but while I agree there are some definate tossers, IMHO they seem to be doing some good, with their Traditional Family Values stuff and all | Chilling_Silence (9) | |
2005-08-10 10:28:00 | I'm failing to see exactly how letting 2 people who never wished to be happen to be homosexual get an offical union is tearing the moral fabric of our society apart and is poising our childrens minds But maybe the destiny church have some ties with the "camp" mentioned here (www.heimidal.net)? Poor kid, not his fault and being tortured for things out of his control

2005-08-10 10:45:00 | Why should we have the right to tell anyone else of how they are to live? what they should beleive in ? maybe even what they think? or what they should do in their life, and income? (titheing there wages) Their clothing code is weird, when they go to conferences they all wear black suits, and ties, and look like the movie : men in black.......... They disregaurd rules, (opening and closing times are for mortals - not immortal Destiny gods) and beleive that God will provide and save them and their property? Live and let live is a great idea, those who have not sinned shall cast the first stone...... beetle :stare:

2005-08-10 10:53:00 | Apart from last years march (against an issue that devided the nation) I haven't seen any "stunts". Cunning or otherwise. Can you please enlighten me?[/QUOTE] Devided a nation, i dont think so, when the goverment passes a bill, I take that all the people silent on an issue, agree with the goverment or dont give a toss, people that take a stand oppose it, So the way I saw it , 1000 opposed the civil union bill, 3,999,000 people supported it..

2005-08-10 12:44:00 | Chill et al, Family values is a laudible concept, or is it, what is it, whos family values are we talking about? I know what they mean to me, but the next person may have a quite different vision of the model . We can perhaps accept that to most people it will mean love and support in a emotional sense (yes spiritual), providing physical support, and providing boundaries within and without the unit (mores & morals) . I'm sorry if you find me to be cynical but see the phrase overly used . it's become no more than cheap words, another catch cry for the tub thumpers to hear their own voice echoing from the rafters . However, I will not tell these people how to live, but I'll be damned if I'll let them intefere in without a challenge, my families business or threaten the society that I believe has more going for it without their devisive bile than with it added to the mix . Now, can we move on to sex and sport please folks . This politics and religion carry on is too poweful a mix to be left up to mere mortals . Jen, you're exceedingly nosey, move along, nothing to see here

2005-08-11 08:45:00 | Sorry, Murray - not sport & not as interesting as sex... But I do have a subject change. I also got the sneaky aimed-at-newbs "your computer may have errors blah blah" & am interested in your comment about "training" Adblock. I scotched the nasty immediately, but don't recall seeing an Adblock sign near it - or I'd have used that. I've had this particular garbage before, but not registered the info. So is there a known remedy I can enter in Adblock's filter now? Or do I wait until next time?

2005-08-15 22:47:00 | Family values........ hmmmmmm.. OK, i'm quite happy to avoid clouding the issue by ignoring the fact that family values is something that means different things to different people. I'm sure cultures that permit many wives have strong family values too, in thier own way.. Family values is an ideal. In many cases its an ideal fantasy. In my ideal fantasy world i would wake up with a caring, compatable, and loving woman, who would have been part of my life for longer than i can remember. We'd be together because we got on well, not because we felt we had to. <end fantasy> I'm envious of those who can do this with thier lives. My reality is that i've had 6 long term relationships, 2 with women i am now indifferent to, 2 with women who are still good friends, and 2 with women i'd now cross the road to avoid bumping into. My son is the product of one of the latter catogory. It sets an odd stage for our family relations, as i have to deal with someone i see purely as the woman i bred with and would not have in my life at all if i didn't have to. Ziggy has 2 parents living within walking distance with 2 very different lives, while i don't see this as ideal, it's far better than 2 parents under the same roof who can't stand eachother. D.C., and all the others who preach "family values" can go jump as far as i'm concerned. Partly because thier understanding of the phrase may be so different to my own, and partly because there is no way that spouting on about an ideal is going to magicly mean that that is how it's going to happen for others, or that one option is suddenly right for all. One of the good points about the human race is that there is such a wide variety of people. Thankfully, different things squeal our wheels In life we (hopefully) make the best of how things are, not pretend they are different, or focus on wishing they were different. Legislating or preaching "family values" simply makes criminal or alien those who the ideal (whatever it is) doesn't work for.

2005-08-16 02:07:00 | Interesting discussion . From a mainland point of view, Destiny hardly exists so it is hard to make a judgement . We do need to respect other people's points of view . A harmonious society needs its members to consider different beliefs and attitudes . To maintain stability, those individuals outside the mainstream must recognise their views are not accepted by all others, and live with it . That doesn't mean they cannot express their beliefs, or indeed try and pursuade others, in a peaceful manner . Christianity for example has spread around the globe through the message of peace, notwithstanding the Inquisition and Crusades . However, when opinions are preached with fanatical, close-minded passion, harm can occur . Hitler's use of christian values is an example . So as a first principle, tolerance is correct . But we cannot turn a blind eye when opinion becomes hate and violence is preached . We should not be so understanding of others that we subvert our own values . In summary, Destiny says some interesting things . But when that leads to hate - people should react . As they do . :2cents:
