| 664737 | 2008-05-09 02:46:00 | And dont install Utorrent, thats probably screwed something up I wouldn't think so, Utorrent is a standalone executable, all the installer does is create shortcuts and directories. I've heard people say before that linux clients work better, but never had an explanation as to why. I myself use Utorrent and have done the port forwarding/half open connections/encryption things and get reasonable speeds. the 700M file you mention would normally complete for me in a few hours. Port forwarding is the big one, Utorrent has an option to test this somewhere and displays a green tick near the bottom of the screen if it's working properly. There is also the possibilty your ISP is throttling p2p traffic and linux is harder for them to detect for some reason. Good luck getting an ISP to admit to doing this though. |

| 664739 | 2008-05-09 04:29:00 | Ok, did all of that. During this i found that windows had started windows firewall, which hadn't realised so that's off now. And i forgot to close my browser before hitting fix in HJT. |

Have you installed XP Service Pack 3? Thanks to your post I have just noticed that Windows has switched on its firewall, even though I have another one installed and running. Damn fools at Microsoft. They have taken the opportunity of SP3 to stuff up my settings for Automatic Updates and turned on their useless firewall. When will they ever learn? :angry |
