| 380039 | 2005-08-11 00:11:00 | Winston: I have looked at the jack. I have visualised a brick wall. I have been unable to put them together mentally in such a way that one repairs the other. Just as O/S & program details are needed to solve computer problems, more info is needed for the jack-illiterate among us to understand how this problem was solved. |

| 380040 | 2005-08-11 02:11:00 | As Archimedes said "Give me a place to stand and I will move the world" So I could mislead you and claim it all stemmed from a 5th Form physics knowledge of fulcrums and levers . :badpc: What I did was hold the jack sideways about 5 feet above the ground . I placed the base against a handy (substantial) shrub, then placed an end of a 4x2 on the business part of the jack (lifting plate) . All horizontal to the ground . The other end of the 4x2 went against some more 4x2s which were arranged vertically on the brick wall . Their purpose was to distribute the pressure because individual bricks would simply crumble . I then operated the jack, essentially "lifting" the 4x2 sideways by pushing it against the displaced wall . I tapped the vertical timbers with a rubber hammer and jacked a click at a time . The wall quietly moved back into place . Voila . |

Shame on you, Cicero, for your "explaining the obvious." The man deserves a cream bun for smoko for his example of No. 8 goforit - even if no No. 8 wire was harmed in this endeavour. (I do hope some cement was later, though. Otherwise, what happens when your Mum sneezes in the garage..?) |

Why shame on you?,suggest any other possibility to use said items, there is none.!(that is to achieve a lateral pressure). |

| 380047 | 2005-08-11 07:49:00 | Jack-illiterate people don't know there is such a thing as lateral pressure. They know that jacks are things you use to lift cars UP. (It's like new computer owners who haven't found out there's any other browser than Internet Explorer. Or any O/S but Windows) |
