I have no issue with their belief in god or wish to Worship, its all the other cunning stunts.

Really? Surely most religions are intolerant of those who do not adhere to there rules, ethics or beliefs? They may be radical, but I haven't seen any evidence of intimidation - have you?

Apart from last years march (against an issue that devided the nation) I haven't seen any "stunts". Cunning or otherwise. Can you please enlighten me?

That would be intimadating to some.
All we need now is the hammers, or whatever symbol of hate one might wish to adopt.

No, simply their right to believe what they want to believe. What gives the rest of us the right to ridicule their faith?
1. Because that is my/our belief, i see no reason to hide it.
2. Because the D.C. have become political, and therefore subject to public "ridicule"

Why not use words like homosexual and lesbian rather than gay?
As I have mentioned before. I would hate to be a child reading P.G.Wodehouse where in may be mentioned that Bertie Wooster went off to Bristol and had a "gay" time. What is a child supposed to make of that?
Language changes. I could have used the words homosexual and lesbian, or perhaps i could have used the term nonheterosexual, but gay would do, and i do beleive you understood what i meant.

And yes, the newer use of the word "gay" does have side effects. The Flintones theme sung "we'll have a gay old time" and the kids snigger. Credit our children some intellegence. They know that gay is a word that didn't always mean what it does now and that old language found in old movies, books etc used it differently, and that that is funny.

379687 2005-08-09 21:20:00 ...... What gives the rest of us the right to ridicule their faith?Remember Christain history is full of hateful bastards who misuse "Gods name" and publicly interperate "Gods will" to justify wiping out large percentages of a countrys population unless they agree to believe the "true church"

The same is try of many religeous movements

Consider the Spanish Inquistion, where "Gods name" was taught to many, over centurys at the cost of the lives of a great proportion of the population who dared to disagree.

"Harry, do you see the truth and follow the good catholic way?"
"no"
*chop*
"Next!!!!! - Joe, do you see the truth and follow the good catholic way, and keep your head?"
" O yes i do, i can see how God must be catholic, and those all other faith are comdemned to hell"
*Joe lives*

Forgive me making light a very black part of our history.

Movements that start with the gatherings of people who wish to reduce the choices of others not like them, usually go this way.

Adolf Hitler, another charismatic nutter, started his hatred campiegn on the jews, darker races, gypsys, homosexuals, non germans and others. In summery, he focused on anyone not fitting with his concept of proper arian people.

Brian has allready started on the un-christian and the gay. He will probably extend to anyone he can get away with in an ever increasing list of the condemned. The pattern is o so familiar.

If they believe something that I find nonsensical or abhorrent I have every right to express my opinion (maybe not here though) .

If I think they are open to ridicule and deserving of it, they'll blimmin well get it . Destiny (and others of their ilk) have no problem shouting down those with opposite views to them, deriding them even, and certainly displaying, at least, thinly vieled overt aggression towards them .

Do two rights make a wrong? I don't particularly care in this case . Amazed? I think not .

He has made several indications as to his leanings . I was just curious as to the reasons .

Fair enoigh .

Unfortunately this sort of movement is having a disproportionate influence in such countries as America (Dominionists, et al) and any number of Muslim countries (take your pick) .

As I see it their whole movement is based on real Christian principles - albeit with some right-wing fundamentilist interpretations . take, for example, their stance against homosexuals: most Christians agree with much that they say, but are unwilling to march to the Beehive to say it . I also don't like the scary black garb they wore during the march because of what it appeared to say .

Real, are yours real, are mine, are you the arbiter? . Do you want to rephrase that, on first and second reading, it's a pretty arrogant or ignorant statement, sorry i can't make up my mind which it is .

That most christians may agree on a particular stance doesn't make that a christian belief or ethos . Anything that is open to interpretation is open to anyones interpretation, it is just as easy to take the negative as the positive stance (which people do) and you have no real basis to object or refute their argument . Defining facts on hazy principles is never a good thing .

(BTW, do you have real independent statistics on this??)

The followers of Destiny are certainly not sick, maybe a bit misguided but not sick .

I was referring to the leaders of Destiny who have my utter contemp . I reserve pity for the majority of their followers .

379690 2005-08-10 06:13:00 Hmmm, to me most churches, and so-called christians are about hypocrisy, as is this thread.
But then I spent quite a bit of my life in church (fathers rules, he who was never disobeyed).
I also wonder when did Metla give a rats about any church, not just Destiny.
Metla doesn't strike me as being religious, but then I may be wrong....
