664724 2008-05-02 05:30:00 How are you doing the port forwarding in your router for the utorrent port?
Are you using upnp and is this working?
Or have you set a port forward/virtual server rule manually in your router?
If you have set it manually are you using the same IP address for the machine in ubuntu and XP?

664725 2008-05-02 05:41:00 I didn't change router settings for XP or Ubuntu.

I just did a speedtest as well, I got 2209kbps at a setting of 300. I got 2182 at a setting of 100.
So I'm getting the impression that its not my connection but possible how windows versions of torrent programs work, linux clearly has less handbrake issues due to less security needs as windows is such a target. Can anyone recommend a fast/faster torrent program.

664729 2008-05-02 11:46:00 Browsing / speed-tests wont be affected at all by changing the half-open port settings, what you're experiencing is the everyday fluctuation of the Internet.

Check the Encryption settings in your windows app
Check the port its coming in on
Try another windows torrent client
As CYaBro mentioned, Portforwarding... its the key to fast speeds (Well, one of them).

Also, dont bother with things that block / filter supposedly bad IP Addresses. Waste of time for torrents! Just use a stock standard installation of uTorrent or perhaps Azureus.

664730 2008-05-09 00:35:00 Hopefully there is someone who is still watching this thread.
I've tried to follow the port forwarding help at portforward.com. But when I go into ipconfig /all vis a cmd line I get.
"C:WINDOWS\system32\ipconfig.exe is not a valid WIN32 application" Then get access is denied in the cmd box. This happened in the TCPOtimizer program as well when it showed its progress every item was "access denied"
I have another program called Xilisoft DVD Ripper Ultimate that when installing states part of it is not a valid WIN32 application then doesn't install properly and I get buffer overrun errors.

Is there a problem with my XP installation? I did have Ubuntu on this computer as a dual boot which I have recently removed.
What have I done and how can I fix it?

664731 2008-05-09 00:48:00 You may have to do a repair install (www.microsoft.com) Speedy Gonzales (78)
664732 2008-05-09 01:13:00 My laptop only came with a recovery cd and not with a XP pro disk. Could I use any XP pro disk or Should I purchase a new copy of XP? I have a friend who has an account with a computer parts place that can get me a new copy for me. jabbapam (10283)
664733 2008-05-09 01:21:00 Well you can post a hijackthis log, scan your system with a AV scanner, or reformat / reinstall Windows .

And dont install Utorrent, thats probably screwed something up
