| 664960 | 2008-05-15 09:24:00 | Thanks folks, I have just done another test, and after 3 days not using my computer at all the battery self-discharged from 100% to 75%. So I am in contact with HP. Will let you know what happens. |

| 664961 | 2008-05-21 10:13:00 | I am not very happy. I feel there is definitely a fault with the battery or computer, but when I take it back to Noel Leeming the sales person tells me they may very likely not find a fault if it is checked and if they don't find a fault I will have to pay $65. I don't feel sure enough of myself to argue with them, so have backed down and will keep the computer as it is. Can someone tell me - Does the battery state of charge meter in the bottom right hand corner of the screen, only work if the battery is kept in the computer having its drainage measured? eg I can't take the battery out and then put it back in a week to measure the self discharge that way, can I? Or can I? |

If the battery holds its charge outside the laptop, then, clearly, the laptop is not 'dead' and something is still running. I'd be looking at wireless, bluetooth or wake-on-lan settings in the ethernet interface. I presume you are shutting down windows rather than putting it into sleep or hibernate mode? Look at google search 'laptop battery self discharge' for some ideas as well. |

Look at google search 'laptop battery self discharge' for some ideas as well . Hi, I have taken the battery out of the laptop for exactly 4 days and it has only discharged to 99%, which is nothing . Yes I am shutting down Windows after each time I use the computer . It goes through the close down routine, and no lights are left blinking as they would be in Sleep . I presume this definitely isn't a battery callibration issue, is it? Because it has been playing up ever since I got the computer, and the drop of charge when left in the computer is massive - down to 75% after 3 days of not turning the computer on! However I am not so worried about the problem now, as I can solve it by taking the battery out . I think I read somewhere that it is best to store the battery at 40% charge if not using it, to improve it's life . Thanks everybody for the help . |
