379287 2005-08-08 08:00:00 We've got a Creative MP3 player - cost about $250 a year ago, probably half that now. The sound is stunning. Greg (193)
379288 2005-08-08 08:42:00 I got an Iriver h340 when I was over in australia, love the thing to bits.. although it was $650 AUD... lagbort (5041)
379289 2005-08-09 06:46:00 Does this mean that NO ONE here has used a cheapie MP3 player?

But I guess the general opinion thus far is even the cheapies (sub $100) give a sound quality that is = to the expensive iPods, etc.

I haven't heard that opinion at all reading this thread, Like all eletronic gear you get what you pay for,

379293 2005-08-09 07:56:00 USE a 20g ipod, fantastic sound, very user friendly with the control and menu's, price's have recently dropped

Harvey Norman in AK were recently (may still be) selling off the 20gig iPod's for about $380, lower than the cost of their iPod minis, because the new full iPods are coming out in colour so you can have photos too.

I grabbed one, because I do not want to use for photos (use flash drive) and an iTrip too. The iTrip is used to play through the car, or any, radio on a frequency not used by a radio station.

It seems that the question I am asking is not understood.
Simply, has anyone evaluated CHEAP [$100 or less] MP3 players for sound quality?
Comments about iPods for $380, and other expensive players will surely be of interest to people reading this thread, but I would like to know the sound quality of the cheapies. Ooops, take this back - "drcspy" mentions a supermarket $50 cheapie that was "OK".

Since music has to be downloaded into an MP3 player, I am assuming that if I go to DSE or other shops to compare sounds, there would be nothing on the players to listen to....?

379295 2005-08-09 22:12:00 I've got one of these (www.dragonpc.co.nz), have no complaints at all, even sounds good when I run it to the speakers in my 4X4. Rob99 (151)
379296 2005-08-09 23:39:00 Thanks Rob. At $84, this is a cheapie.
I like the LCD screen. It seems the inexpensive iPods do not have screens so navigation would be a pain.

The heading shows it as a 256 Mb, but the specifications list it as 128 Mb.
I would be reluctant to get one with only 128. Maybe when the price drops for 512 or larger players, I'll shelve the CD-MP3 Sony we have.
