2005-08-07 13:08:00 | i dont think the police would do much for me...... a strange thing to assume in the circumstances. I used to work for Telecom Mobile amongst other dodgy jobs, and the first thing the police or the telecom will ask you to do is to keep a diary of the calls - numbers, conversation details, times and dates etc - over weeks, or even months(!!). The diary is then taken by police but must be submitted to Telecom and/or Vodafone for number tracing etc. All very laborious, all very time consuming, and very very few get to the prosecution stage. Telecom and Vodafone charge the Police a huge fee to investigate this for them, so the Police are reluctant to take it far unless your life is clearly in danger. Best bet is to change your number. If you have done this already, but the abusive calls/texts persist, then it is someone you know - either someone clearly pissed off with you, or some moron who thinks it is a really big joke. You should know someone who is clearly pissed off with you. If not, then it is some moron. In that case, next best bet is to condition yourself not to react to the threats, unless you are sure they are serious. They will get tired of spending money sending txt messages or sending email.

2005-08-07 13:30:00 | How many messages email/txt are you getting each day?? What kind of violence are they threatening?? Hire a bounty hunter or learn ninjitsu. Or call the cops.

2005-08-07 21:53:00 | Come on suckers -- he/she is making the whole thing up .. Only a complete loser would fall for this crapola Could be. Maybe not. What gets me is when people complain about spam, bullying, whatever, and just stay a victim by keeping the same email address and phone number. To stop being a victim, change your email address and phone number. I have changed my email address 3 times in the last 9 years, and phone numbers 5 times. People quickly learn your new number/ address!! All it takes is to inform your contacts, maybe twice, and then all is well.

Get the P.I to do a sweep for bugs and hidden video cameras in the house. Could it be someone at work doing this....or have you broken up with someone recently ? Are you doing any sensitive work for any large corporations Have you done a spyware scan on your computer ? Tell us some more info. |

2005-08-08 08:43:00 | In all seriousness, the police can help. A friend of mine was receiving abusive text messages, threatening violence, and the police first got the account blocked, and then managed to track down who it was - it turned out it was someone the guy knew, and the problem was sorted out fairly quickly. | somebody (208) | |
2005-08-08 14:51:00 | :( I'm sorry if I upset you Ali but I didnt make it up. I was actually hesitant to post because I was afraid of being flamed and hassled by people because I often use this great forum to get technical help and I didn't want to annoy anybody. I was also worried of the same kind of response from the police, because I've reported a stolen wallet to them before, I even knew who took it yet the didn't do anything about it, so I don't have much faith in them. Plus a few other incidents of similar nature... I've talked to a few people about this and apparently it's quite common to have this happen! One girl I talked to recently had actually had a worse experience than me, a boy had started stalking her and her sister, followed her home often and such, but she went straight to the police as she had the boys mobile phone number and some witnesses, and the police had a serious talk with him and since then she has been left alone. I was worried that they wouldnt take me seriously as I'm not a girl, and think it a stupid joke as you have Ali....but as you said, only a loser with no life would make a post up like that... thanks for your help anyone who was concerned, if things get worse for me I guess I will have no choice but to go to the police...

2005-08-08 15:01:00 | I have often changed my email. I have done again now, and I've changed my home phone number, my cell is next. Just recently the person sent an abusive email from my own account to a friends parents in china just to cause more touble for me! I then got an email from the psycho laughing about it saying they used "Anonymous Mailer" to fake my account and cause trouble for me and to block his IP.... I was glad that he was stupid enough to tell me as I could fwd the email to my friend to prove it wasn't me... man! some people just need to get a life I think... And "vinref" what you posted is exactly what I assumed would happen... thanks for clarifying that. Anyways, as I said before, thanks for your help all, I'm sure I can sort this out soon. :illogical

2005-08-09 05:19:00 | Police. This is serious and needs to be dealt with. Call the police and explain everything to them. Like, right away. | george12 (7) | |
2005-08-09 08:54:00 | As ninja has asked, post the full header of the original emails here As I understand it numbers can't be blocked when texting (I might be wrong here, please tell me if I am) so post the number as well.
