664913 2008-05-02 03:26:00 Hi everyone. I am trying to install an extension phone jack, piggy-backed off an exisitng one, which will be used to plug in our D-Link wireless router. All the phone jacks in the house are 2-wire variety. My problem is that the ADSL light on the router won't light up when plugged into the original (already installed) ecco jackpoint, but when I replace it with a small square extension jack from Dick Smith, it works fine! I want to use the Dick Smith one as the new extension. Are the jacks all the same? Why does one type work but not the other? Hope this makes sense.

Roger

You have most likely got the wires in the wrong slots.

Note that the older Telecom jacks had 6 slots, each for one pin - the phone line was connected to 2 & 5. The newer 2 wire jacks had three slots dedicated to pin 2 and three slots dedicated to pin 5. I have no idea what the Ecco ones have.

664918 2008-05-03 11:03:00 Did you test with the same phone? decibel (11645)
664919 2008-05-03 11:44:00 Yep it was the same phone. The whole house is on 2-wire jacks, so there shouldnt be master and slave jacks to worry about. rebuch (13690)
664920 2008-05-04 10:28:00 Well, you must have the wiring wrong or a faulty jack - I can't see any other possibility. decibel (11645)
