Windows Explorer crashes when ever I want do do anything, i can open my computer, and even open up one of the drives, but as soon as i try to open a folder - it crashes.
I have the same trouble with IE, I can start it, but if i try to open a page from a link or even to close it - it crashes.
I can create text files, word docs, but cant create pictures or edit pictures...........PLEASE HELP.
I think I need a new drive, but I cant afford it, and dont have any way of backing up my files
I cant afford to get it fixed either

664816 2008-05-01 09:28:00 I would do a clean install / format.

Have you got the XP CD?

It sounds like you've got too many probs to fix. And a lot of crashing

And once you reinstall Windows, DONT install any P2P programs.

And install a better AV program like Avast if u want something free.

664817 2008-05-01 09:32:00 Ive got Avast, and I did a scan the other day after you said i should get it....(when you gave me the other advice) I did a scan that day and it didnt find anything. Windows is Fire trUCKED. Camiron (7092)
664818 2008-05-01 09:34:00 I would still do a clean install, whatever u had may have screwed some files up

Have you got the XP CD to do a reformat / install?

664819 2008-05-01 09:36:00 yea ive got it, i dont have any backup space tho.....so i need a new drive....that way i wont have to worry bout the new drive failing like this one, and me loosing more info Camiron (7092)
664820 2008-05-01 09:39:00 How big is the hdd in there?? How many GB?

And is it partitioned?

WHAT do you have got to back up?? You cant copy programs that have already been installed, you'll have to reinstall them.

664821 2008-05-01 09:42:00 the drive is 320GB, partitioned to 80GB for the OS, 100GB for backups, and 80GB for setup files, since the 2 other drives are full, i dont have anywhere for my documents, for p2p files Camiron (7092)
664822 2008-05-01 09:56:00 Well I would say thats whats screwed things up in the first place.

That P2P program

664823 2008-05-01 10:03:00 I'll concede that I'm not sure where the virus came from, but it's my Documents that i don't want to loose, I've got some pretty important files, and these exceed the p2p file sizes Camiron (7092)
664824 2008-05-01 10:13:00 Camiron - when you say the main drive 80Gb Is full, would you say from what you have on it, that it would actually be that much in data / programs .

The reason for asking is there is a couple of viruses that are known as snowballs - they have the effect of growing and growing with cr@p until the drives are full and cant take any more .

These can be fixed (sometimes) by having the infected drive on a second PC and cleaned that way .
