666263 2008-05-05 18:09:00 Good grief . . .

I thought that the new AVG Free was better . . . but somehow it seems to have found all the stuff that Spybot has in it's black list, and has notified me that I have them ALL!

I know it has to be wrong because some of the "findings" are so bad that they would never allow the puter online at all .

What's up with the new AVG?

The scan has been going on for hours in just the C drive . . . and yet there are 7 more hdds to go thru .

If I can get a logfile of the results, I'll post them here . . . . IF this ever stops .

666264 2008-05-05 18:27:00 Crumbs that's not a good sign. I've just recommended the product to an associate who is clueless with computers  Greg (193)
666265 2008-05-05 19:09:00 I have the "J" drive scan running right now . . . but all the bad stuff seems to have been in the <root> or "C" drive .

4 hours and 49 minutes of scan so far too .

BUT . . . . all my other puters seem to have no problem with 8 . 0 . . so maybe this is just a fluke . . . I'll let it run till it's happy and check it all out when it's done .

Don't panic yet .

Apparently the black list is a real entry in the registry to fool the malware into thinking that it is already installed .

I believe that . . after all that's the same hdd where I have installed Spybot . . . and now that the actual scan is completed, AVG doesn't even bother to report them as nasty . . . just hazardous .

Phew! I thought it had bought the farm .

666268 2008-05-06 10:37:00 Hi, Surfer Joe. An allied (but not really connected) query. I can't seem to find a link on the AVG site to AVG 8.0 Free - only a 'pay for' one. Can you point me to it? Cheers. A Team (13613)

Cheers.Yeah it's quite annoying how much of their pay-for stuff you have to scroll through to actually get their free version.

Dirty marketing tactics is what I call it.

Also, I wonder why the previous version was a 17 meg download... latest is well over 40 megs!

666271 2008-05-07 03:05:00 Hi

Just downloading 8.0 free version now. Before I install it, should I uninstall 7.0 first? Or can I just go ahead and install the new version?

Thanks
Oxie
