666107 2008-05-05 05:06:00 Hi, my neighbour's DVD Drive will not play some dvd movies. I loaned him 3 movies and only one of them would play ok. They work fine in mine and we have the same one, HP. They just come up blank on his.
Any clues or tips?

666109 2008-05-05 05:13:00 Did you burn / make them yourself?? If you did, did you finalise them?? Speedy Gonzales (78)
666110 2008-05-05 05:19:00 One was rented from the library and the other two I bought at The Warehouse. lakewoodlady (103)
666111 2008-05-05 05:20:00 Its probably the program theyre using, or theyre missing a codec.

Or theyve run out of Zones (if theyve got XP), if they've been playing previous zoned dvds

666112 2008-05-05 05:31:00 Don't think it is a zone thing cos he's only just discovered that the dvd drive plays movies and the first one he tried played ok through Windows Media Player.
he's got XP SP2 and keeps everything updated and uses AVG, Ccleaner, Spybot Search & Destroy, and Windows firewall.

How would we find out if its missing a codec?

666113 2008-05-05 05:33:00 Try downloading a trial DVD playback program like Cyberlink PowerDVD. Test it to see if it works, that way, we know it isn't a problem with the hardware. SPARTAN 860 (2618)
666114 2008-05-05 05:42:00 Aha, he's got Cyberlink PowerDVD, will try your suggestion tomorrow, thanks. lakewoodlady (103)
