665794 2008-05-04 20:53:00 The Ultimate Boot CD (http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/) has 3 built in antivirus programs all capable of running from the CD.

You could also download Nod32 (www.eset.com) on a clean PC then put the downloaded file on a flash drive / CD , then start the laptop in safe mode and install Nod. It will load/run in safe mode, and will also attack the viruses when the laptop reboots, then you do a full system scan.

665796 2008-05-04 21:28:00 Connect the hdd to a working computer, then scan it. (You may need an adapter, depending on what the hdd is (SATA/IDE)

Then get a better AV program

665798 2008-05-04 23:09:00 Its the same as any other hdd

If it can come out then you can connect it to a desktop

I did it with a laptop SATA hdd. It kept on rebooting / crashing. So, I connected its hdd to this desktop formatted it.

Reinstalled XP on it. It was full of so much crap / malware, I had to format it

665799 2008-05-08 11:32:00 Use a live Linux CD to copy important documents on to a USB stick or external drive. You can then reinstall Windows, install an antivirus, scan the drive you backed things up on to to catch any viruses accidentally included in the backup then copy the documents back on to the computer.

P.S. If you're in Wellington I can supply a CD to do this.
