665619 2008-05-04 00:00:00 I have a laptop. I have the ICQ setup file but haven't started it yet.

Because I am not sure if my laptop's security will not be compromised when ICQ is up and running on it.

The setup file is called Install_ICQ6. The security software I run on the laptop is called Nortons Internet Security (NIS).

Is anyone able to advise me on this issue?

I have MSN because I read somewhere that it is compatible with NIS. Haven't seen any trouble with MSN on the laptop.

665620 2008-05-04 00:03:00 ICQ itself isnt 'vulnerable' from what I understand, sure it gets the odd security update just like all software, but its "best-practices" that make the difference.

Dont click links from people without knowing EXACTLY what it is (Even if they say "Hey is this a pic of you??"). Ask them something like "what am I doing in it?"
Dont accept files without finding what they are before you run / open them, even pictures

You could always try something like Pidgin if you dont wanna use the official client?
