The scientific analysis of political polls and elections .

Whatever you do, don't mention TV3 or DB in the same breath, he'll go down in history as the first Nat leader to wear a Labour tie on prime time TV . It'll take him a while to worm his way out of that mess .

Good economist? Probably . Good politician? Never!

Cheers

380535 2005-08-13 02:59:00 Glad someone else noticed the Labour Red Tie. What were his minders thinking? or maybe he(or his wife) realised that Red has good Feng Shui.
The government has shot itself in the foot so many times in the last couple of years that any decent opposition would have them in tatters by now. (can you imagine what Muldoon would have done to them?)
We may have a change of government in 5 weeks but it won't be because the opposition has any better ideas than the government.
Brash comes across as a slightly confused librarian, Winston as an aging Lothario and is still singing the same old tunes, and Rodney Hyde as Tweedle Dum.
In fact if the Nats get in (with the help of ACT) and Brash gets chucked out we face the prospect of having Tweedle Dum and Tweedle De (Gerry Brownlee) running the country.
Anyone for that?

380537 2005-08-13 04:16:00 I think I once read that psephology is really what people loosely call "democracy" .

A democratic decision was reached by a decision of the whole community, that is excluding slaves, foreigners, women, children, criminals, and other unworthy types .

Psephology was to do with a count of stones dropped in urns by those who cared enough to make a vote .

My memory could be faulty, but I can think of an appliocation involving stones (or large rocks) and politicians . :groan:

Of course you could always stone the politicians yourself, they'd still wonder who hit them but it would help keep them off the bottle! It's hard to dodge incoming missiles when you are half-pissed.

380541 2005-08-14 19:08:00 This about sums them up,apart from Don of course.
"When politics are used to allocate resources, the resources all end up being allocated to politics."
"Giving money and power to the government is like giving car keys and whisky to teenage boys."
