2008-05-09 03:52:00 | Hmm some sites say OE doesnt work with port 587, try 465. So, if 587 doesnt work, try 465 (which is used for Gmail).

2008-05-09 04:04:00 | Yeah 465 and 587...SSL normally on for those ports, but try it both ways. | wratterus (105) | |
2008-05-09 04:58:00 | The problem isnt this users IP address or Mail settings, as the user isnt connecting directly to Hotmail / Live. Its IHUGS problem, its their mail server which is blacklisted. Read my previous post, Ive contacted them, they dont wanna do jack about it, so basically theres tons of Ihug users out there who cant send to Hotmail / Live mail users when their mail is sent through one of Ihugs mail servers. Ive changed IP many times, changed many Email settings.. if you read the full error, you'll see its an issue with Ihugs mail servers, therefore the onus lies with Ihug to contact Hotmail / Live Mail and inform them that Ihug isnt a spamming service.

2008-05-09 08:37:00 | Exactly!!!!!! Thanks for your post . It's nothing to do with whether I'm on dialup, broadband, cable, whatever . It's nothing to do with the email client I use (Eudora actually) or what ports I am set to . , or whether the email is SSL or not I appreciate the well-meaning advice but it is not relevant . It is about IHUG having a DESERVED reputation among other ISPs (AOL, hotmail, comcast, verizon, dslextreme) for being the source of spam . These other ISPs blacklist a range of IP addresses that IHUG use, and they do this to protect their own customers . Consequently that stops IHUG's legitimate users from sending email to anyone at the ISP concerned . A short-term fix is for the IHUG email admin to contact the ISP concerned and negotiate a lifting of the block . This works for a day or so, then a block is reimposed . The long-term fix, which IHUG either can't or won't action, is to deny spammers access to their email servers . It's not rocket science . A script could easily detect someone sending 1000's of identical messages . Hey, they block me from sending more than 20 at a time . This has been going on for many months, and they've been told over and over - yet they make pathetic and insulting suggestions like 'oh, if a message is important, sign up for a gmail or yahoo account and send it through there' . Man walked on the moon 39 years ago, yet IHUG have no idea about stopping spammers using their network, or any will to do anything about it . To hell with legitimate customers, and come on down Miss Spammer! I would leave IHUG yesterday except for family issues with sharing a broadband connection . I've also considered buying my own domain name, and sending it from there, but I've been told that if my internet connection is still through IHUG then it would get relayed through there and treated the same way as other email originating from IHUG . All I can say is that if you want your contact to receive your messages, and are looking for an ISP, do NOT choose IHUG . Several years ago I would have said that reluctantly - we signed up in 1996, and supported them because they pioneered unlimited (no data cap) internet, and even through the compulsory 3-hourly disconnects, and faulty modem banks in the mid 90's . Today the top priority for their 'help' desk or 'support' personnel is to ignore, obstruct, and say 'go away' . They are a very different company now . :groan:

2008-05-09 10:31:00 | Well, I looked through my outbox and see I have sent them 28 emails about this issue over the last 6 months. With no result. I guess one option is to go to the media - eg a letter to PC World, the Herald, etc. Any suggestions?
