665845 2008-05-08 06:40:00 Ihug have really done it now. I am supposed to start using them on the 5th June 2008. They have now sent me a Bill of $90 for the month of May 1st-31st 2008. I have not used them yet. I have asked where my credit note is for the modem & phone which are "free". They agreed to give me a credit towards the first month's costs.:drool

I think I will stay with Telecom, may cost more but at least you can communicate with them.

665846 2008-05-09 02:25:00 Here's today's error message, since previous posts saying Ihug were 'working on it':

So, when this is reported to Ihug, what happens? Nothing, de nada, zip.

Please don't post telling me to be patient and saying that they are working on it. This incompetence and studied indifference has been going on for months.

665847 2008-05-09 02:32:00 I dont think its Ihug's prob .

Youre not the only one with this prob ( . google . com/search?client=opera&rls=en&q=The+mail+server+IP+connecting+to+Windows+Live+Ho" target="_blank">www . google . com tmail+has+exhibited+namespace+mining+behavior&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8)

Altho, if youre sending these or receiving emails from others to your hotmail addy, in OE (some old accounts can still retrieve emails from their hotmail addy, with OE), MS will be stopping this from sometime in June I think it is . For everyone .

Unless you pay to use it

In my opinion it is Ihug's problem . They are the ISP connecting to hotmail . I contact them and am ignored . The message gives advice to Ihug's email admins . This and similar problems have been recurring for so long with outgoing email from Ihug, and with so many other receiving ISPs that it is their fault .

I use the term 'ISP' reluctantly with Ihug . I'm not getting 'Internet' (fully), I'm certainly not getting 'service', and what is 'provided' is shamefully deficient . Internet Service Provider? Not .

665849 2008-05-09 03:00:00 I would say its MS's/hotmail's way of telling you, your IP has been blacklisted, and is spam, which is why its been rejected

Go to the link you posted (http://postmaster.live.com/), to solve it

If youre on dialup, disconnect and reconnect. I had a similar prob when I was on dialup with IRC. Get the wrong ip, it banned you from IRC, because it thought your ip was from a spammer. I had to redial to fix it (so I could get another ip)

And that was when I was with Ihug as well
Speedy Gonzales (78)
665850 2008-05-09 03:07:00 Exactly. Over the last 12 months Ihug have been blacklisted by AOL, hotmail, comcast, dslextreme, verizon ....

Why? They are allowing spammers access to their STMP mail servers, either directly or relaying it.

What are they doing about it? Nothing.

Your advice 'Go to the link posted to solve it' is for Ihug's admins. Not for individual users like myself.

665851 2008-05-09 03:15:00 So are you on dialup or broadband??

If youre on dialup, I would say thats the only way youre going to fix it (disconnect and redial, until you get another ip address) .

This may take a few tries, coz sometimes you get the same ip 3-4 times in a row, like I used to . And this used to happen to me when I was with Ihug, like 3-4 yrs ago!

If this is what your prob is, then nothing has changed . And probably wont change . If you're on dialup, with Ihug .
Speedy Gonzales (78)
665852 2008-05-09 03:22:00 Broadband.

Also, it's not just one IP address blocked. When this happens, Hotmail/comcast/AOL block a whole range of IP addresses used by Ihug's STMP server.

665853 2008-05-09 03:32:00

and here is Ihug/vodafone's standard very helpful reply:

Subject: Fwd: Delivery Status Notification (Failure) [Incident:080509-00####]
Sender: Vodafone's home phone & internet team
Recipient: #####@ihug . co . nz
Date: Today 14:23

Suggested answer

Hi #####,

Looking at your email (no, they haven't read it), we think the info below could help you .

But if this doesn't answer your question, please hit reply to this email and we'll get back to you . (This means they might read it, and will then ignore it)

Getting error: 0x800ccc0F? No, I'm not

How is spam sent? (If you know the answer to this, you should be able to identify and stop the people using your mail servers to send it)

Understanding and dealing with spam (This relates in dealing with incoming spam)

What are ihug's mail settings? (My POP asnd STMP details are configured correctly)

What can i do to minimise the amount of spam email i receive? (I'm not receiving spam any more heavil;y than usual, my legitimate email sent through your servers is blocked)

Kind regards

Vodafone's home phone & internet team

665854 2008-05-09 03:41:00 According to Google AOL ( . aol . com/faq/port25faq . html" target="_blank">postmaster . aol . com) Cox, Comcast ( . lockergnome . com/usrbingeek/2007/04/12/comcast-blocking-port-25/" target="_blank">www . lockergnome . com) and others block port 25, to reduce spam

Well, Comcast anyway, block incoming and outgoing email on port 25, and some sites suggest changing the SMTP port to 587 .

As it says on the AOL site above:

This is the default port for authenticated email . You may need to contact your email provider for information on connecting to their email server via port 587 .

Change your SMTP port to 587 in OE / whatever email client you use for Ihug .

See what happens, then try sending an email to AOL or Comcast
