381211 2005-08-16 05:50:00 Hmmm...

I will vote for the greens with the party vote and unfortunatly its all tied up in my electorate so it doesn't matter with the member vote.

I don't like the greens pot policies, but their "green" image is great. I voted for them 2 elections ago when they said they would stop logging on the west coast. They did. Thier hearts are in the right place even if some of the ideas are a little off the wall.

I noticed that soon after they released their pot policy, back in June/july, their polling dropped, its an off putter, maybe thats why Nandor is now down the list and I gather won't get back in. Otherwise options for parties are thin on the ground.

The greens will keep labour honest, so I am sort of giving a proxy vote to the labor party.

This I very much doubt. Rather than keep Labour honest they are more than likely to encourage Labour to break MORE promises. This is in reference to you stating you voted for the greens when they said they would stop logging in the West Coast. Former governmental promises to allow logging thru until 2012 were quickly abolished once Labour realised they needed to stop this to get the greens to form a coalition with them. Furthur to this it disgusts me when I hear people such as yourself raving on about this, do you live on the West Coast? If not I feel complete and utter disgust and if you do, maybe a little less. The affect on families that relied on working in the forestry industry was devastating.

Oh, and Helen.... As previously stated: a fraud, a speeder, a liar and ugly. Do we really want to continue to allow her to be the "face" of new zealand? :yuck:

As for Don, his head seems so vacant that the words "cash" must permanantly echo round his head.

381212 2005-08-16 07:04:00 Your "ugly" assessment is hardly relevant, Veale.
If we chose our prime ministers on looks, several of the recent males certainly wouldn't have made the cut.
I don't remember anyone suggesting his looks were a reason not to vote for Rob Muldoon, for instance.

381213 2005-08-16 08:27:00 Still deciding between NZ First and Labour

Why NZ First: good ol Winnie keeps them guessing, therefore the other politicians can't become too settled and go to sleep

Why Labour: Better the devil you know (Clarke) than the one you don't (Brash - trust him less than I trust Clarke for some reason)

Veale

When I read this I had a flash-back to 1985 - 88 . Those were the years that farmers had all government assistance removed in New Zealand . Families were devastated - bankruptcy, suicide, mental breakdowns . Meanwhile the cities boomed, the sharemarket rocketed, and factories continued to be subsidised and protected .

So I understand what you are saying Veale . Its all very easy to make political decisions when the folk at the sharp end are far away, and few in number .

If there is one thing which disgusts me about modern politicians it is that they make decisions based on population centres (voters) rather than need or long-term benefit to the whole nation .

381215 2005-08-16 09:04:00 That West Coast logging issue made all the JAFAs think they were doing something good for the environment. I read that Timberlands looked after the forests 100 times better than DOC ever will. wotz (335)

381217 2005-08-17 02:00:00 The Herald. Can't find which one now - might have been the weekend one.

Well I'll be darned. Story here (www.nzherald.co.nz)

"Yet it takes considerable research to discover that the Greens' other leader, Jeanette Fitzsimons, is a major shareholder in Windflow Technology, a Christchurch wind-power company. Fitzsimons owns 30,000 shares (UK magnate Teddy Goldsmith, brother of the late billionaire Sir James, owns 50,000 and US tycoon Delane Wyeross has 79,000). The Green Party's taxpayer-subsidised superannuation fund has also invested in Windflow."

381218 2005-08-17 03:28:00 I will definitely not be voting Labour. They've changed New Zealand into Soddom and Gomorrah. vapo (5203)
381219 2005-08-17 03:51:00 Um, I know this will upset you Veale but I don't care about the people earning their living off felling trees. Really I don't.

When they introduced the spinning jennie weavers rioted, when they introduced modern wheels, wheelmakers lost their jobs, when electric power became common, candle makers were out of work.... Guess the theme here, - jobs become extinct people have to move on. It happens in all other industries, in all other jobs, from factory workers to professionals, why should it NOT happen here?

Get used to it, learn another trade or skill. Why should we keep on with failed and outdated situations just to keep a doomed industry that just rapes the land.

Surpisingly the fishing industry is in the same "boat". Having raped the oceans soon there will be few jobs around for fishermen, look at Nelson now, do you want to keep them in money as well, and just kill the last remaining fish?

Wallow in your disgust, it makes no difference, time and jobs evolve and move on.
