You have twice the computation power (Well, not exactly, but you know what I mean) over two cores, so of course ANY OS will be faster. Dude seriously you need to take a look at your responses: A) You have a favorite OS as does Battleneter2, yet you criticize him for defending his fav OS while you do exactly the same! Why? B) You've not actually given any sound reasoning WHY Vista should be a better OS, just that its your personal preference. We've seen that in terms of network throughput you can find a benchmark that will go either way, so that cant be a good reason to recommend it. You both need to agree to disagree! the_bogan, interesting to know ;) |

2008-05-06 11:33:00 | There's such a small difference between the networking speeds in Vista and XP thats its not even worth arguing over. And yet, we're on page 4 here :)

2008-05-06 11:43:00 | Lets be realistic, how many offices are you going to care about the network throughput of your Desktop OS? The Server OS perhaps, or the switches you're using, sure, but a Desktop OS? Seriously how many home or business users are actually going to notice? Less than one out of every 100?

2008-05-07 22:01:00 | Ermmm, hang on a minute mate, Vista is a much better O/S than XP, true it is slower at present with transferring of files across a network Vista faster than XP (www.geekzone.co.nz) I have not commented on which OS is overall better in this thread and do not plan to. Vista is a generally poor performing "Networking" OS, I was responding to a claim that Vista was the best OS for "Networking" which is ludicrous. A major complaint all over the net concerning Visa has been its poor networking performance, helped somewhat by SP1 and I was fair to stress that point. blogs.zdnet.com No matter how much "Fuzz" that user spins, he was incorrect and he knows it.

2008-05-08 06:25:00 | I'm not supporting any OS here but Vista is not poor at networking. A bit slow at transferring files but very stable and reliable. And you're right, SP1 has helped.

2008-05-08 10:10:00 | I think I'm incorrect? I didn't know you were me :). No, I still think Vista is better for networking, just not faster. Hope this helps the discussion :P. Chilling Silence I dual boot Vista and XP on my PC, and Vista seems more responsive in day to day working and gaming. I do not have two different PCs with two different OSes. You cannot compare those, it called an unfair test. Hope this clears up any foggy info.
