665825 2008-05-04 17:49:00 Thats ****..

I'm having conflicts with I-hug at the moment too..

Over 2 days, my internet speed has dropped around 1200 kb/s.. Stuck surfing at 55kb/s (dial up speed)

Hi helpless Random,

Yep, my speed sucks big time. I am on dial up connection and when I ran speed test it says I am running at 4 to 8 kbps download and zero upload !!!!!

The speed used to be great years ago, but it is grinding to a halt now. I keep phoning and complaining and all they say is that the speed will always get slow after 8.00 pm as that is when all the kids get on the net!!!! Doesn't explain why it is slow all the time grrrrrrr.

same here! went from 1300down 130up to 800down 60up

for a week or so it was slower than dialup!

I am waiting to change to Telecom Broadband, I got the wireless kit sent to me only to be phoned up, on the day that the technician was to come out, and told that the cabinet about 1.5 km away from me is full. They said they need to build a new cabinet, but because it is on council land they have to get permission to build another one there and that will take 6 months or more !!!!!!! They have put me on the waiting list incase anyone goes off broadband using that cabinet. Apparently I am second in line. The upside is that they said I should get really good speeds as I am practically ontop of the cabinet, plus the exchange is only 3 km away.

got a mate trying to get broadband that's been "2nd on the list" for some time now. i wouldn't bother waiting unless 12 or more months seems a reasonable time...

Whos ihug? Don't you mean vodafone???

bah, the bill and website still says ihug, so we'll call them ihug and just keep in mind we really mean vodafone... just like xtra/telecom ;)

resent and all ok.This has been for about 5 days or more.

665827 2008-05-04 21:42:00 The next technician I spoke to told me that I need to turn off not only my antivirus software but my firewall also!!!

They all say s&^% like that .
You just say, yes I have done that and it hasn't fixed the problem .

665828 2008-05-04 22:07:00 Right you are robbyp!

Yeah Ihugs Helpdesk has really gone down the drain in terms of technical knowledge lately.

So my dads got a problem:
Emails bouncing back from Hotmail

I kinda blew him off at first and got him to check the address, thought it may have been a temporary problem or something.
No, its a definite problem with Hotmail having blocked Ihugs mail servers and blacklisted them as "Spam".

Problem? Yes!

So I get him to ring Ihug, at first they dont want to do anything about it.. I stay with him while he's on the phone and listen to make sure he's given them exactly the correct details (He's semi-technical though and knows more than enough not to be fooled by a Helpdesk agent blowing him off, and apparently smarter than most of the current Helpdesk staff there!). The Error-reply message from Hotmail is pretty clear though that its blocked a mail server.

Nobody wanted to do anything about it at Ihugs end. As far as I know, he's still having the issue.

Ive been a supporter of Ihugs for a long time, but lets be honest, the advice being given from their Helpdesk is simply disgusting!

This morning, my fathers heading off for a week so goes to set an Out-of-Office response. TradeMe's Auto-reply starts bouncing and he has 1,000 emails in about 10 minutes.
He turns it off, adds some exceptions and rings the Ihug helpdesk to talk to them about it and see if they can prevent something like that from happening again (Perhaps a Company emails him while he's away with a different auto-response subject line?).

Helpdesk agent runs off, comes back and says "OK, it wont happen again", so my father asks "Why not?"
"Oh, because my manager said so."
"Why, has your manager changed something?"
"No, just because he said so."

What a crap reply that is! Naturally he didnt stand for that and wanted to speak to the Helpdesk manager. He's going to be called back in an hour or two by the manager.

Disgusting customer service? Yes
Un-willing to do anything about it? Yes
Are Ihug / Vodafone the only ones who can actually fix the problem? Yes
Are people getting angry and wanting to leave? Yes
Can my father contact Hotmail / Whoever and have Ihugs servers unblocked? No - They wont listen to him

Unfortunately my father has his business cards printed with his Ihug address on them, so changing could be semi-problematic.

Anyways, just thought I'd share that you're not the only one who finds their helpdesk a waste of time and their email problematic.

Speeds here as always are brilliant though, happily reach download speeds of 400KB/s+ for HTTP and 120KB/s+ for torrents

Hang in there skiwi!

Hang in there skiwi!

Sorry to hear that. Perhaps the only solution is to move ISP, however many ISPs have you locked into 12 month contracts.

Unfortionately Vodafone possibly can't do much to get themselves removed, from hotmails filters, so that could be why they don't know what to do to help. One of the web hosts I use, also have had a similar problem with their webmail systems, where emails sent via the webhosts webmail, would either not be delivered to the hotmail address, or it would go directly into the spam folder.

My brothers girlfriend is also currently having a problem with vodafone NZs ISP service. They are currently unable to view a particular US hosted wedding planning website. They can view it fine via my connection using xnet, and at their work. I can't remember the website now, otherwise I would get other vodafone users to test it.

665831 2008-05-05 12:27:00 Something like that could be a DNS issue...

But yeah, we've been with them now, had the same account for around 12 - 13 years maybe?!

Possibily could be a DNS issue, but vodafone weren't able to tell then what was wrong, they just said they didn't know what was wrong, and told them that the website was down, even though it could be viewed with every other ISP they tried it with.
iHug have changed hands a few times since you joined them, and they are a very different company to what they once were. It is always sad to see an iconic NZ brand disappear.

665833 2008-05-05 12:43:00 Tell me about it :(

'tis fine by me though, this just means I can try and convince the olds to ditch Ihug and switch to Xnet where we'll get a 35GB bandwidth allowance, no 24-hour capping if we use 2GB in a day, and VoIP Calls wont cost towards the data cap :)

665834 2008-05-06 01:37:00 On the odd occasion I have had to turn off the Zone Alarm Mail scan, but not close Zone Alarm. Never had any problems with AVG or Avast with Zone Alarm.

The only time I have to turn off the mail Scan on AVG is when some idiot sends me a huge uncompressed file, then it times out.
