382218 2005-08-21 13:07:00 A sentence needs a subject and a verb. "A dog" by itself means nothing.Wrong. (Or correct only by some definitions).

From Cambridge University in England comes this:

"Sentence: This is a term which professional linguists still find impossible to define adequately. It is usually supposed to be "A sequence of words which makes complete sense, containing subject, object and main verb, and concluded by a full-stop'." (bold mine)

382222 2006-09-20 10:18:00 How so? 0 is the original, it doesn't count as a move. That's why I labeled it 0 ;)
I only changed a letter five times.

382223 2006-09-24 08:45:00 Thanks for the suggestion, i finally got the answer!! It is "Shut up and sit down" fishyfish (8745)
382224 2006-09-24 10:35:00 And the shortest possible sentence:

I am.

Actually the shortest sentence in English is probably "Go.". This is an imperative sentence, as opposed to your declarative sentence.

In latin this is even shorter, simply "I" (a single letter i). This is the singular imperative form of "ire", meaning "to go".
