381381 2005-09-06 01:33:00 Have you ever met anyone who refused a pay rise because they had to pay more tax?
Have you ever met anyone who was given an alternative.?

Most the ones whinging the hardest are the ones with the least amount of Maori in them .

While I agree we should recognise the Maori Culture, most Maori's are more white than Maori (i . e . less than 50% Maori) . Therefore, since "Maori" are just like the rest of us, a mixture of multiple races, we should all be treated equally .

You hit the nail on the head . . . . or should that be "Greenstone adze on the skull"?

In a way. I know people who have refused extra work or more responsiblity, because it will just be more tax and the increase in cash for them is not worth the extra effort and strain on their health.

I am firmly against progressive tax. i.e. the more you earn the more tax you pay as a proportion.

381384 2005-09-06 02:51:00 I'm really suprised that people are actually going for parties based on the so called 'tax cuts'. I think I might change my vote to labour.

Better to know the devil you know than the one you don't. :2cents:

381385 2005-09-06 03:08:00 And we will have more 60-year old grannies getting taxpayer-funded sex-change operations and other similarly based policies.

Sometimes a government gets too comfortable for it's own good and this is the time. If the next government also gets too comfortable, it will also be out. That is the power of the vote. It will keep them on their toes. Watching those polls and minimise their effects on our lives.

381386 2005-09-06 07:24:00 As a 15 year old, I can't vote in this years election, however i want to give my 2 cents on the parties and issues:

National;
Tax: Our family earns 140 grand a year. We don't need a tax cut. And i would much rather see the 4-6grand we stand to save under national be spent on public services. I also don't believe that we are taxed as high as people state we are.

Maori: The "race-based" funding introduced by National and Labour has done great things for Maori welfare. However i do believe that it is time to start moving away from that to a system where all of New Zealand's less-off are treated equally. The problem with National, if that while New Zealand's less-off will be treated equally, they won't be treated very well at all. National Tax Policy does nothing to support the children living in poorer families, all 300 000 of them.

The main problem I really see with National is the above 2 are really their only polices

Labour: I think Labour has done great things for our country, and I would like to see them continue their work. The economy is barely related to Labour's policies, however Labour has made some great improvements under repaying Government debt.

Greens: I want to see a Labour/Green coalition because it will be my generation that has to deal with expensive oil, where it is only a luxury for the rich. I think now is the time to start moving away oil and towards sustanable energy sources (biofuels).

Some of the Greens policy are a little to crazy, particuly there trade policy, however the fact is that they are a minor party and many of their policies will not become law.

NZ First: I can't stand Winston, he sits around and does nothing while in Government except make crazy claims about immigrants and AIDS, then just before election time, he visits a bunch of old people and plays on their fears. I hope his party doesn't make it back into government.

Maori: No. I know a lot about NZ's history, and the injustices of our nations past. However we need to support Maori development, while embracing the multicultural society we now live.

United Future (and to a more radical extent Destiny): The intial reaction to the Civil Union Bill from my peers, wasn't no way", nor "finnaly". But it was "what, gay people can't marry?". Basically i can understand why these parties are against such bills, but i believe there are merely attempt to force Chrisitanity onto New Zealanders. As a Christian myself I think that God gave people the right to chose him or not and we have no right to force our religion onto others.

Act: Meh who cares. They won't be there anyway.

Progressives: I disagree on there bill to raise the alcohol age to 20, however i support most of there other ideas.

Thats pretty much my feelings

381387 2005-09-06 10:30:00 Forever the doom-sayer, I foresee the possibility of galloping inflation within the next 12/24 months, with interest rates rising to double digit figures .

What price tax cuts then?

China has taken over as the worlds manufacturer, their demand for oil will be insatiable . Their prices are going to skyrocket relative to their current low prices, and the cost of transporting those goods around the world will start to become astronomical .

The western world, because their manufacturing base has been eroded, will be forced to continue to buy Chinese and pay their prices .

Oh woe, oh doom, it will be irrelevant who is elected, and when they can't deliver on their election promises, they will be able to point to world events outside of their control .

Then there is the probablity of a 'New Orleans' event happening here, a tropical cyclone that will make 'Bola' look benign, we already getting 1 in a 100 year floods every year or so somewhere in the country, so we should not be surprised by increasingly extreme weather events .

Thus spake Old Moore .
