666245 2008-05-06 09:27:00 Hey I'm not having a go at him. I'm just saying if it doesn't require an pci-e power connector it ain't power hungry. Therefore my PSU will handle an independent GPU fine. So I asking for peoples opinions on best "Graphics Cards". CaptainVincent (76)
666246 2008-05-06 21:57:00 9500GT is the best option I agree, but they are very new and i have not seen them listed, a quick look on pricespy and can't see them there?

I am not a fan of this type of upgrade where you are trying to avoid dealing with a major problem with your rig by buying around it. If you want a decent GPU for gaming(thats a guess), you can never do it on a 300watt PSU.

My advice, a new better rig than you have only costs $500 (no monitor and additional GOP). Hock the dam thing off on Trademe and fix the mistake probably at a minor cost.

Captain Vincent, i dont think your listening enough to what people are trying to say.

Just because the card does not require extra power from a PCI-E connector DOES NOT mean it is power friendly, it just means it doesnt require the extra boost that other GPU's do.

I would have to strongly advice against this upgrade myself, you need a new PSU. Not to mention your CPU and RAM arnt the best to go well with todays high end anyway (If its the computer in your sig).

A couple of years ago i tested my actual power useage of my computer at the time (X2 3800+, 6600GT, 2gb's of RAM a awesome system for its time) and it used around 300watts in itself! Thats without any external power connectors to the graphics card.
