665815 2008-05-04 10:15:00 Wow, I didn't get all that detail in my error message. If your email worked you could email that to Ihug and tell them they have a mail filter problem maybe? skiwi (13702)

Anyway, I phoned ihug to see if there was a problem there.

Whos ihug? Don't you mean vodafone???

Anyway, can't you bypass your ISPs SMTP server by using your web hosts SMTP server. I have found some NZ ISPs can blacklist domain names and IP addresses hosted at some datacentres, due to them receiving spam from those IP address ranges.

665817 2008-05-04 10:31:00 I am using my ISPs SMTP server for private mail accounts and my webhost SMTP server for business as I explained previously. There are no problems at all with my webhost emails, sending or receiving.

The only problem is sending emails from my ISP email accounts, no problem receiving emails at all. So there would be no reason to be blacklisted. Plus this seems to be a global problem. I was advised that it is happening to a lot of people at the moment.

Plus I use spamassassin with my webhost email.

I haven't encountered the problem, although a few months ago I did encounter a similar problem sending from Xtras servers that send using Yahoos offshore mailservers. It sounds like it is solely restricted to vodafones smtp servers. Who else is having the problem ,to make you believe that it is a global problem?

665819 2008-05-04 11:13:00 Hi robbyp,

The tech at Ihug (Vodaphone) told me that a lot of their customers are having this problem at the moment. Global as in sending to emails in other countries. They told me that people couldn't send to free email accounts such as Yahoo mail addresses and hotmail addresses.

That would suggest then that it is almost definately a problem with the Vodafone email servers then, especially if they are saying that many of their customers are also having the same problem. Vodafone may have actually got their IP numbers blacklisted on a spam database/s, possibily because they have had someone on their network sending bulk emails. I suspect that means you also can't send to Xtra email addresses, as they use yahoos strict spam filtering, and these free email providers possibily subscribe to similar spam databases. If that is the case, Vodafone will need to contact the affected companies to get off the blacklists.

Do they still give you newsgroup access, as I thought many ISPs no longer provided it? Or are you using google groups?
